Death, much like justice, is blind. It doesn't care who or how one is or has been in life. When push comes to shove, death can be cruel, merciful, or neutral.
Winter knows this better than anyone. He has witnessed first hoof how cruel death can be. And yet, for all his caution and paranoia, he may discover that no one is above death.

This story was marked as horror but it didn't really feel that scary to me. It felt more like a sad kind of story, so I'd suggest maybe switching to that tag, unless I'm just not understanding where the horror part comes into play.
