This is a very overt commentary on G4 vs G5.

Yes, all things end, but one end was disregarded for another.

Which ending is preferable depends on who you ask.

"But look on the brightside! I only got to interact with the Breezies only a hooffull of times because of their peculiar habits. Now, you've got an entire society living within a tree! How is that not exciting!" The Elder One's face was alight with a rare glow. "And those Auroracorns? I wished I could have met them. Their brand of magic sounds so intriguing, and their horns are made out of some kind of crystallized ice? Never take your world for granted, Sunny. Sure, the past had all these amazing things, but look at all you've accomplished and how much you can still go for. The benefits of resetting is that the map has to be redrawn. I think that's worthy endeavour."

Sunny doesn't strike me as the type who'd think that that would be worth having multiple sapient species go extinct, plus multiple generations of ponies living and dying under the delusion that the other tribes always were and always will be their enemies.

It sounds like an copout answer, but that notion comes from a mortal's point of view. But if you see it from the point of view of an immortal being? It kinda makes sense. If you saw the same thing over and over again, sooner or later you would wish for change; But when you are the thing that keeps the world stagnant, well, the only solution is to remove yourself from the equation, right? Mind you, I believe that Twilight came to this conclusion relatively very early, with only 200 years of reign.

And THIS is why i think g5 is good
Because g4 WAS coming to an end
Why make a sequel? Its time for a new generation to occur
Its Beautiful and its been here for 3 years and i enjoy it

There is no doubt about that my friend, but it cannot be denied that it would be nice to see such endearing characters again, Spike's return showed us that and I personally hope for the return of the alicorns, they seemed like very wasted characters to me, especially Luna and Flurry Heart.

yeah, it was a bit short, but what can you do when the canon states it has been that long, not even I don't think!

11821412
Eyyy! Glad you enjoy G5! All that negativity felt a bit icky

That's why fanfiction authors exist. To create dreams into reality without touching the actual reality. Every story is a 'what if...' scenario that we, as authors, mold match, destroy, or completely reshape the laws that have been put down.
It wouldn't be fair for many if the show kept on running, sure, the fans would be ecstatic, but what about the people behind the show? What would Lauren Faust say? The VA's? Generation 4 has been continuous for 11 years, maybe more, what with production and whatnot. That is a lengthy time for anybody.

This was the end we got, so we should treat the end of G4 with respect. Let the years fade away to distant and heartwarming memories.

I'm not trying to call you guys out or anything, I'm just stating my opinion on the matter.

great animation

You have a point

11821535
Indeed
This generation is about unity
Not hate

11821879
Indeed indeed!

Even there, Twilight seems like she should be perfectly capable of promoting progress without letting some supervillain go hog wild.

In pretty much every other work of fiction where someone is trying to let society collapse on blind faith that it'll come back better, it's portrayed as a seriously evil thing to do.

Indeed - you could scrub all references to G4 from what G5 content we have, and the effect on the plot would be minimal.

that is a very good point, I didn't think of that.

You know thats not what i meant buddy

For your first point, I'll just say that, if Twilight wanted to retire, the least she could do is leave a replacement in place, after all, Celestia did it.

To your second point, I think the narrative of a society depending on a single individual to remain stable has been explored more broadly than "if society collapses, it's that single individual's fault and he/she is evil for it."

For your third point, even if it is not directed at me, I am in the camp of those who believe that G5 should have been its own thing, completely separated from G4. A writer presented in his Fic the idea that G4 is just a cartoon show within G5, as a way to keep G4 present in spirit in G5, without limiting G5 with what is established in G4; and I think that would have been a pretty clever generational compromise.

Aw, that's nice. Thank you!

I was about to say that Twilights is a monster who treats the world as some sort of playground or fictional story, but then Sunny reciprocated this by putting value in having fun, knowing cultures and going adventures. As if Twilight admitting that she's responsible for multiple genocides doesn't bother her.

This is fake. This is not ponies talking about the pony reality they live in. This is MLP fans discussing a fictional animated show.

She struck me as this, though not to the extent Twilight shows here. In the movie it looked like she cares about the image of good old days that Argyle instilled in her, rather than the ponies' wellbeing. "Ponies are meant to be friends", as she said. She wants Equestria, she wants friends with cool magical powers and she's oblivious about racism even being a thing... well, rather selectivaly oblivious as the plot demands. In "Make Your Mark" she also talks about magic in terms of coolness rather than usefulness and ignores all the problems caused by the earth pony magic.

Where oh where does it state that she committed genocide, implied or otherwise?

Good person, of course this is fake. Doesn't make it any less real. I made this a reality. You don't have to state the obvious nor do you have to be so aggressive. If you weren't trying to do that intentionally, my apologies. It felt that way to me.
If you don't like the way it was written, maybe, perhaps, explain what made the story unenjoyable.
Thanks

Her decision to not stop Opaline caused extinction of multiple sentient species. If she knew this was going to happen, it's genocide. If she didn't know, the point still stands. She is perfectly fine with all of this and gives wild justifications which imply that she doesn't treat others as actual sentient beings who deserve to live and live well.

The point of fiction is to create illusion of reality. At least if it isn't postmodernist, absurdist or some other fancy word, and your fic isn't. This means that I expect pony characters to treat the world of MLP as we treat our real world. But they don't. They discuss it as a piece of art where characters aren't real people and it is fine to let them suffer if it makes a good story.
