Fairly nice exercise of thought, and imagery in the end there is vivid one. Kudos!

C-PTSD and Dementia at once can only be described as Hell. Though I feel someone would have suggested that Luna and the doctors officially had on paper that she was unfit for work and that Twilight and Luna take over her duties for a little bit. While they put her down safely in a Hospital where it would be placed on record that she was gone.

A lot less likely for political dissidents to pop-up if they knew that Celestia's death was a merciful act to put her out of her misery.

It would be hard for Twilight but even regenerative immortality has it's flaws and might have even hastened Celestia's Dementia due to the effects of constant regeneration of a deteriorating brain not being the same brain that was there before.

I really enjoyed this, great work!

if you wanna write that as an alternative ending, go for it! :raritywink:

I suppose it makes perfect sense that an immortal could still fall to degenerative brain disorders like dementia. Probably one of the worst ways to go in the end.

Still, I'm not quite sure if what Luna did was actually a mercy though, seeing as Celestia still had moments of lucidity. She could probably have asked her sister during one of these moments if she wanted to keep on living, rather than making the choice for her. Suppose that's the burden of having someone so powerful lose themselves. It doesn't give you the benefit of time.

Aside from the depressing nature of the inevitability of death for all things, including immortals, I thought this story was great, but a bit fast paced.

Also, A small part of me hoped Celestia would be turned to stone until a cure could be found.

Even though this story isn't about her, I wondered how Twilight would react in this situation.I think it would be nice to see an epilogue.Or a sequel, where Twilight finds out Luna actually killed Celestia but doesn't know why and is torn between "Luna is a murderer" and "she most likely had a reason"
