Still Waters

Our little ponies find themselves at humanity's interstellar back doorstep. Having some idea of the ongoing problems humans face when it comes to friendship and harmony, one pony in particular takes it upon herself to throw an introductory party right away. What could be a better idea than to wage party with the help of some multi-ton war machines the wayward Equestrians have found?

Ponymechs? And why not? I hesitate to think about the amount of damage that a mech-sized Stare generator could do to the pilots of an opposing clan. As for RD's mech...? Well, when they've got the propulsion problems sorted out, it might be the first ever ground-based design mech that's able to effectively engage air assets from a position of strength. :pinkiecrazy:

Seriously, it's an intersting feature of this story that the ponies have used their own unique approach to weapons engineering and the human-designed mechs might not have any way to combat it. The weapons appear to, at least partially, be psychic in nature, intended to attack the pilots directly rather than their machines. If so, they could cut through the toughest army in existance in a single battle.

This ends with Equestria being turned in a glass parking lot by mass nuclear and orbital bombardment. That's the standard Inner Sphere doctrine in case of alien invasion.

Heh quite the story. Keep up the good work! :pinkiehappy:

I'll say that I've already told you when I read this earlier; I'm very, very glad to see that some people can write soft crossovers that're whimsical rather than pointlessly dark, fun rather than, well, pointlessly dark, I guess. I enjoyed reading this and I look forward to reading it again to see what, if anything, you've changed since last I read it!

Also, lovely cover art.

*pinches nose and holds the pose*

...

*Sigh* Can I PLEASE be the pilot that puts the hole through Pinkie's cockpit? Please?

I loved this story, and I love Pinkie with all my heart, but her actions, reckless and idiotic, despite their success, have only served to piss me off.

Interesting, why's that?

1620020 She jumped the gun. She assaulted their base with no attempt at communication. And while she actually won with no lethal take downs, her actions were taken as an act of war, and now any pony who shows her face in human space will be shot on sight.

If she were human and under my command (if I was in the military) I would have had her court marshaled, or shot, whichever came first and I could get away with.

I will admit that I might be overreacting. But damn it Pinkie!:pinkiesad2:

1620840

*chuckles* She may have jumped the gun, but only because she and the others essentially saw your profile picture painted over the inner sphere. How could she really resist that?

And with everything else... yeah. Miscommunication can be amusing, though! It's the basis of many a farce, after all.

This is really meant to be taken as lightly as possible, but you do have to remember that these are equestrians with essentially no military structure. So not human. Yes, if they WERE human, this story could play out very differently.

Hey hey hey! You leave my Angry Marines face alone!:ajbemused:

*Tired sigh* Yeah... yeah I guess you're right.

I guess I must have gotten used to them being more human than usual due to so much Fallout and spending too much time with this one group.

1626017

*chuckles* Wasn't poking fun at it at all! But you know that a more closely cannon/less dark Pinkie Pie would definitely want to turn it upside down.

And the idea of exploring an alien mindset is something really appealing to me. S'why I'm trying to argue from a *not* human-viewpoint. X3 But it happens!

*snicker* This sentence caught my attention because it seemed like a strange turn of phrase. Then I got it:

One of his lancemates sounded unhinged for a moment as Ramsey caught a mutter over the com. Something about... a massive cake? Impossible, it had to be a lie.

This story surprised me. I expected to have a hard time suspending disbelief - how are they going to bring a party to the Inner Sphere in battlemechs of all things? I could only foresee this ending poorly. Then they commenced firing, and it all ... well, made sense might not be the right term - made sense in the context of the way they think?

They really are aliens. Their brains certainly do work differently. :)

Heh, only now do I fear that I actually used too much referential humour. But oh well. Sounds like you enjoyed, and I'm glad!

Is it equipped with an AC/party?

As an old school MechWarrior 2 fan, this one made my day

S'where I started! X3 And glad to hear you enjoyed! :pinkiehappy:

Heh, heh, the rainbow Large Lasers and Muffin Autocannons were a nice touch.

I would certainly agree! X3

BattleTech is my personal favorite. Halo and mess effect behind it and finally star wars

10357964
Nice choices X3c I still enjoy Battletech, myself. And Star Wars vehicles are what got me into mechs way back when, lol. Never did get too into ME or Halo!

After 343 took over i kind lost interest in halo, i much prefer the original trilogy and novels/comics surrounding it. Mass effect i did enjoy, the third one made me sort loose interest in series. Still liked the lore and alien species in the game.

The Mechwarrior universe is vast.

There is room for ponies there.

A person of culture, I see.
