McPoodle

A cartoon dog in a cartoon world

T
Source

It's 2011 and Spike the toon actor is getting a little sick and tired of how he's the butt of all the jokes, both on and off the set of Friendship Is Magic.

Daffy Duck comes along and convinces Spike to get very sick and tired. So sick and tired in fact that he quits. He's off to Hollywood now, to become a big dragon toon movie star!

And meanwhile Daffy quietly plots to break back into show business. Far away from Warner Bros. Far away from that upstaging rabbit. And only Angel Bunny stands in his way...

Originally written for the Who Crossed Over My Little Pony? contest, but it's too long and it has humans in it so...no dice.

This is a crossover, mostly with Looney Tunes, but also with Animaniacs. Additional character tags: Daffy Duck, Slappy the Squirrel, and the Dodo (from the 1938 WB cartoon "Porky in Wackyland"). Additional genre tag: Metafiction.

Personally, I fell like this should've took place after "Owl's Well That Ends Well". Upon realizing that the main six are more than willing to show more appreciation & respect to any assistant & even have them take Spike's place without considering his feelings after all he's done for them, surely he'd be more than willing to quit & leave them on the spot. This way in time, he'll get to see first how they're getting long & liking it when he's no longer there to cook, clean, or pick up after them anymore.

Looks like T.W. & friends have finally seen the folly of their treatment towards Spike.

Looks like Daffy being there helped out in the long run after all. They should be thanking him for if it wasn't for him, season two wouldn't have been fixed & the main cast wouldn't have realize the folly of their treatment towards Spike & realizing how much they do need him in their lives.

Great story, wished I could've been there with Spike.

This right here is everything I loved and more about "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and other similar stories about 'Toons interacting with reality the way human actors and actresses do. The history behind each significant character and their personalities on and off set are so well written and fitting that its like I'm watching the episode in my mind! The older characters feel as old as they are while still fitting their characterization and extrapolating how things go after they've 'retired'.

The subtle and not so subtle world-building behind the AU is fantastic and I'm so glad you included most of the major historical studios and not just Disney/WB. I shudder to think of that hypothetical season 2 that might have been, cause its way too easy to see a studio pulling that kinda thing.

The humor is top notch and well executed. If I didn't know any better I'd think I was reading the novelization if an actual movie!

For me, this is an instant favorite, regardless of the contest.

Fritz Freleng said that he considered Bugs a successful Errol Flynn, Daffy an unsuccessful Errol Flynn & the real Errol Flynn as being in between them.

Yeah, some of his best cartoons were with Bugs but overall his best partner was Porky Pig. Duck Dodgers, for instance.

Windsor McCay got his start with the Little Nemo comic strip. I'd say he was probably the 3rd most influential cartoonist of the 20th century (behind Hanna/Barbara & the guy with the mouse).

I'd also give a shout out to Mel Blanc who was the voice of over 400 cartoon characters.

You made me realize that I should have been providing Artists and Voices for all of my main characters, in accord with the worldbuilding. So now Mel and a lot of other folks have been credited.
