That is the best reason to explain Pinkie Pie I have ever seen.

Makes sense to me! Especially the part with Pinkie. Thank you for this lovely bit of headcanon. :pinkiehappy:

So, do I actually believe in Twilight's Friendship Effect?

Bah, canon or fanon should never get in the way of a good story. And this is a good one.

Well, this was an unexpected surprise! I dug the story well enough but to find that I helped inspire this makes me tingle like Pinkie's tail! :pinkiehappy:

Heh, the "Friendship Effect" explains a lot. The travel through time part of it feels farfetched, but I can totally buy the rest.

I found it funny how Twilight has already begun setting up her own court with Spike and Owlowiscious. Day and night court are now in session!

Seems that Trixie had all the right equations, but lacked that "spark" to have it all fall into place. Until now. Woe be Equestria. :pinkiecrazy:

Nice job!

So what you're saying is that, given an appropriate prop, like some sort of ornate bugle, Pinkie Pie could actually raise the sun unassisted.

I'm glad you all liked it.

Actually, I was thinking more like give her a pair of reins attached to the ground, and she'd put Equestria through the biggest loop-de-loop ride that anypony had ever experienced. :pinkiehappy:

...I guess the sun can play too, if she'd like. mlpforums.com/uploads/post_images/img-1933589-2-unamused_by_celestiaunamusedplz-d4dftjl.jpg

I liked the story...but...

the only thing that separated you from your peers was your skill in using the enormous amounts of magic that Princess Celestia gave to you. On your own, your magic level was in fact less than that of an average unicorn

That line really bugged me. We know Twi was a big shut in for most of her life, but she did that whole surge thing by herself (with just her parents there though I imagine so did every other student) just fine and Celestia says "You have a very special gift. I don't think I've ever come across a unicorn with your raw abilities". I mean, you're telling me that if any unicorn managed to get more than six friends they'd be stronger than Twilight? I don't know, it just bugs me. Like, if you say she was somewhat powerful before but her friendships are what made her, you know, as OP as she is, that's fine, but to claim she's actually below average doesn't sit right with me.

Pinkie's role here was excellent... but I think the best reaction to this revelation was Fluttershy's.

So, how much of Celestia´s mojo comes from having 100% approval from her subjects, rather than her alicorn status.

Makes perfect sense. Friendship is magic, and that magic isn't just limited to the Elements of Harmony (it damn well better not be; Twi's closest friend doesn't have one). The key development in Season 4 demands the removal of the artifacts so that the Friendship Magic of the individual characters can be brought out. Those artifacts were more like amplifiers than weapons. They didn't produce squat; the same sh-t that kicked Nightmare Moon's and Discord's arses is still there.

On an unrelated note, there's this:

Her main enemies, the farmer, the flier and the fashionista,

And the dragon, who was more adverse to Trixie's performance than anyone else, but didn't get humiliated on stage. You didn't mention him when you imparted the group's reactions, yet he's more than just an extension of Twilight.

Yes, this is exactly why I put that note at the end that the theory is a bit shaky. I could go on about how the vast majority of unicorns only get a very specific skillset, and thus having extra power from friendships wouldn't make much of a difference to them, but in the end there had to have been one other unicorn with a generalized cutie mark like Twilight and more than six friends.

So just be glad this is just a one-shot.

I'm sure that Celestia knows the answer to that question--but she's not telling. :trollestia:

Spike has learned the vital lesson since Season One of keeping his own counsel. Trixie wasn't paying that much attention to him because of size discrimination, and he didn't particularly feel like sticking his neck into a fight where his side was being more than adequately represented. That, and the possibility that he'd be able to get out of handling Twilight's princess correspondence. :moustache:

This actually explains a lot about Pinkie Pie. Friendship IS magic, after all, and Pinkie has hundreds of friends. You know how a black hole has so much gravity, it can warp space itself? Pinkie is like that, but instead of gravity, she has friendship-magic. She is literally a living singularity of magical power.

Sorry, I completely missed the authors note. Still, I don't actually think its a problem of the friendship theory, its more the fact that you described Twilight as below average, even though we've seen that she was powerful before she had friends. its less a problem with the theory and more me just getting hung up on that one sentence.

This is a glorious explanation of Pinkie Pie. It's seriously competing with the one from Petriculture as the best explanation I've seen.

That may be the most adorable stable time loop I've ever witnessed in fiction. :rainbowkiss:

Well then...

I sure as hell wasn't expecting THAT. :rainbowlaugh:

This argument actually sounds like a more detailed version of what Twilight said to Sunset Shimmer at the end of the movie, you know how she lost because real magical power came from friendship and Sunset Shimmer despaired when she realized she was wrong all this time--- not because of the plans to invade Equestria but because they would have worked if she'd spent those years building friends instead of just having two minions.

...What, did you see something different happening there? Twilight may have meant to make a moral argument but it's not in what she said and Sunset Shimmer seems pretty likely to fixate on the power aspect.

And the movie did seem to indicate friendship is literally power.

Pinkie Pie explained. Never thought I'd see the day where friendship = space-time warping powers (besides Kamen Rider Fourze, of course). :pinkiehappy:

I could totally get behind a teacher!Twilight/student!Trixie fic. Wonder if that's out there somewhere...

Pinkie pie explained. I thought it would never happen, but you did it perfectly. Well done, well done indeed.

I'm really conflicted. This fic feels great fun and fascinating. I love the idea of friendship as a magical modifier til Fluttershy's piece which is bloody creepy and then Trixie's complete turn at the very end.

So, I'm left wondering if I really want to up or downvote it ><

Actually, that's not a hole in the theory at all. The show examined this. The friendship connection was active as soon as the first rainboom occurred, not when the lot of them realized they were friends with each other years later. The magic surge was Twilight Sparkle's magic suddenly going to 6x power right when she was drawing on all she could to solve an unknown problem. The result was a 6x surge doing all it could to fix who-knows-what.

Well... that doesn't fix the hole whereby some unicorn in history should have had more than six friends, I guess. Trixie's comments about proper mages surrounding themselves with toadies rather than friends only goes so far.

There's a difference between acquaintances, friends, and true friends, though.

I... I need time to comprehend what I just read.

“One thousand and eighteen,” Pinkie’s muffled voice responded.

Waaaaaait. If Twilight has ONLY six friends, each of which are bearers of harmony (which may explain why the huge increase of magic), and she is able to do highest-level unicorn magic, then... Pinkie Pie probably has more magic then Discord, Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Twilight combined!
Simply put, the world is doomed.:pinkiehappy::applejackconfused::rainbowderp::twilightoops::raritydespair::fluttershyouch:

Hmm, this could also explain why Celestia has been getting steadily less impressive as the show progresses: Twilight and the mane 5 are stealing all of her fans.

I haven't read a story of yours since the Vinyl as Twilight one. xD I enjoyed this, and sort of wish I'd read it before finishing my recent story about this duo for more perspective.
