An interesting concept, but this lacks the impact of other industrialized natural phenomena, especially something as essential as its prequel. I kept waiting for the deeper reveal and it never came. Sorry, but this one just didn't grab me.
This could easily become a government-sponsored service, so at least they'd get paid whether or not they have clients. It certainly seems important enough to warrant it.

After reading this, agreed. There's no punch, although I don't think SoL nessesarily needs one, just a bit of world-building. Not bad.
