I don't read (or even know where to find) the comics, but man... I always felt like the way they ended those villains' stories was unsatisfying, especially with Cozy Glow, hence why I wrote this story. Cozy Glow is my favorite villain, and the one I most wanted to see reformed :)
I'm not gonna give it a thumbs up or thumbs down. Thumbs down could get it removed and it's a pretty good read. Thumbs up could mean it basically gets my stamp of approval and... I don't. Cozy Glow becomes an Alicorn because she learns what her cutie mark really means? I guess by that logic every pony the CMCs helped figure out what their cutie marks actually mean should be Alicorns as well.
I'm not saying it's a bad story. It's pretty good. I like that Chrysi gets a reform and you stop the "Villain reform" at Tirek not really getting reformed just sorta... accepting things as they are. But Cozy becoming an Alicorn because she figured out she's meant to encourage others? Which... honestly isn't what the Rook in Chess does. The Rook/Castle is the defender. It can move as many spaces forward and back or left and right as needed. It's meant to be there to defend the King by "Castling" them in the corner of the board with the Rook in the way of the enemy pieces. The Rook is a sacrificial piece. It's meant to be thrown away to protect the King. If anything, Cozy's cutie mark being a Rook should aim more towards her sacrificing something precious to her.
Hmm...very interesting for the most part, but the last bit was too over-the-top I'm afraid.
Why are the diary entries written normally and everything else is italicized? Because it’s usually the other way around.

I was more going for her being destined to be a princess from the very beginning. The whole being a villain thing was basically her going down the wrong path because she misunderstood her purpose, and then over the course of this story her path is corrected so she can find her true purpose. As for the whole rook thing, you do have a point there. Admittedly, I don't play chess, and I was going off of a description of the rook I had heard from someone else. All I knew was that the rook could be used to manipulate the other player into doing things, or "encourage" them to make certain moves. Maybe by encouraging people she's... defending them from their own self-sabotage? Sure, I'll go with that.

Tirek and Chrysalis are both in this story, and both get reformed (or at least, Chrysalis gets reformed and Tirek accepts her offer to try and reform him), so I wasn't planning to write more on the subject. I may or may not write a sequel to this story though, and if I do, they'll be in it.

I've seen stories with nothing but thumbs up get deleted because someone pointed out something they disliked about it. I'd like to not feel responsible if people like that look for stories with a thumbs down.

There's a lot of story packed into a relatively small number of words. But you know what? I did actually enjoy this story. I like the idea of Cozy trying to hideaway, even going as far to bring back Starlight's spell to remove her cutie mark. I thought the princess bit at the end sort of came out of nowhere. I didn't think she did anything to earn being a princess so suddenly, but hey, not complaining, she deserves it.

Glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, the princess thing did come out of nowhere. My explanation for it is that Cozy Glow was always destined to be a princess, she just went down the wrong path for a while, and in the cave she finally became the pony she was meant to be. But it definitely happened too fast. Honestly, I cranked out this story in two days to meet an artificial deadline, and in retrospect if I'd allowed myself more time I would've ended it differently. I've actually been working on writing an alternate ending to this story for precisely that reason, which I hope to publish sometime soon, once I find time to write again. I'm definitely taking my time with my next fanfic, as I want it to be as good as I can make it.
I did NOT expect her to become an alicorn. that was a twist.

Yeah... If I were to write the story now, I would've ended it differently. In retrospect, that whole plot twist happened too quickly and it would've been better to have her just become Twilight's student or something. I keep toying with the idea of writing an alternate ending for this story for that reason.
