Genius. Prodigy. Magus. Powerhouse. Unbalanced. Crazy. All words used to describe Twilight Sparkle at some point through her life. This is the story of her life, and of those close to her.

Long lived sorts, these rock ponies.
Well if you eat the
wrongright moss you won't have to worry much about such inconveniences as sanity, try the blue moss, that's the good stuff.Vimes would approve. What's the point of a Watch that isn't a part of the place it watches?
Aye, that's the job. At the end of the day, sometimes it simply boils down to getting in the way.
Lies, waking up is the worst part of the day. why would you base your expectations on such misery?
So close and yet so far. And after Celestia went to the trouble of implementing Evil Overlord Rule 130! "All members of my Legions of Terror will have professionally tailored uniforms. If the hero knocks a soldier unconscious and steals the uniform, the poor fit will give him away."
Never heard of conquest-by-realty before... Saves zog-only-knows how many settlers and miners from getting telefragged by the Crystal Empire I suppose...
That right there, that's the moment that every historian for generations is going to point to as the moment where everything went to @#$%. There's gonna be paintings of this.
How about some mood music?
So I heard you boyos were looking for Celestia?

oh combat was good, though was hoping to see twily use that magic knife of hers to give one of the dick heads in guard armour a suprise
pfft I'm in full plate that butter knife wont even scratch this armor
SCHINK ow
or i wanted to see twily go full starmane nightwatcher
Holy Sun-scorched soldiers, Batman! THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! More, please! So much more! Thank you!
Curious to see the dynamic between the Nightmare and what I can only presume is Luna speaking from within. Reaching out to Twilight to get her to awaken Celestia from Nightmare's hold. Clearly, she's still in there somewhere.
Though... this is going to be a hell of a purge, lots of major figures are going to be flash-fried soon enough.
So It WAS Luna in her dream, asking Twilight to cal her to free her sister.
It makes one doubt, was Celestia already on the Nightmare's grasp when she went apeshit on the legion and broke her sister? Was that her wake up call?
Really happy to see this updated.
Also, this is something I have though before but the best government posible is an abnsolute monarchy with actually capable and ethic leader. Of course, lifespan make it so that it's basically imposible to mantain long term but that is no problem here.
Poor Cadance. She focused on the wrong source of trouble and the wrong source of loyalty.

now has a group
pending better name
Then hast excessive foul excrement truly impacted yon rotary atmospheric recirculation device...
Let the death and destruction begin burn them all celestia
Wow just... damn. Well written
You know... the constant 'Call her' I thought was Luna trying to convince Twilight to open herself up to her power as Shining did. But calling Celestia does make more sense, and has distinctly fewer consequences (I hope).
Celestia is gonna have a fit and probably purge the army tbh.
This was great. Also, I really like stories were the Alicorns are "physical gods".

Where did you find that picture of Celestia?
To the author, your fight scenes were just fine. I was a tad bit confused during the part when Grey is thinking about home (hundreds of years) and he's been on the Canterlot watch for only fifty.
But dang, what were those idiots thinking? or was this merely a base grab at power whilst the Princess was indisposed? I hope that some of the traitors are left alive (but not necessarily uninjured) to answer questions.
I like how you portray Blueblood, you give him a reason as to why he's so standoffish (at least in part).
There is hope for him yet as despite his eyerolls and annoyance/frustration, I get the feeling that Twilight and he are going to be close acquaintances if not full-out friends before all's said and done.
Reading this last scene, I can't help but hear the Ultra Instinct theme in my head. The image you paint with your words, backed by the epic strings of that tune, is a glorious combination.
Praise the Sun, motherfers.
10564758
Yeah. Been putting in references to ponies living longer (Especially Earth Ponies), I think the first big mention was Sergeant Basalt Pie being well into his eighties and that being 'middle-aged'.
In the immortal thoughts of Vimes;
Celestia had managed to keep to rule 20 as well, so far - but I am always tempted to break that.
While that's a good musical pick, I admit I was instead listening to this when writing that part;
10564790
I admit that was my original intention (the knife), but it didn't turn out so well in implementation.
10564791
Will do, right after Celestia finishes using the Treason Repellant.
10564895
Such is the risk of a coup. I'm glad you're catching on to the Luna-NMM thing!
10564918
Yup! It was Luna. I'm glad you guys are spotting it. Celestia does have a good few advantages in terms of Rulership, doesn't she?
10564922
That she did, but I imagine it's a lesson she will never forget.
10564983
Holy shit. A group for my fic, eh? I never thought I'd see the day. Thanks!
10565064
We're gonna need a lot of mops.
10565067
I think someone mentioned the searing of traitor's flesh awhile back in the comments, appropriate here.
10565124
Thanks!
10565174
Yup, Luna the whole time. The Legion will certainly need a bit of forceful readjustment after this, and IS.
10565186
I love the trope for Alicorns as well, obviously. Glad you liked it.
10565232
Oh, well, the thing with Gray was that he spent 50 years in the Legion, and then roughly 50 years in the City Guard. He would have been 120-ish or so. Sorry if it was confusing!
There have been some hints as to what it was all about, but you'll learn alot more soon.
10565373
It is a pretty good choice of theme music for them. Praise the Sun!
The traitors learn a fatal version of the lession "Sometimes it's bad to get what you want." They wanted to see Celestia? Well they got to see her before being incinirated.
God damn was that amazing! Well done. I'm looking forward to the next chapter so much.
I'm guessing that none of these ponies had ever actually seen an alicorn fight before?
10565678
Yup! Sometimes getting what you want has unexpected consequences.
10565698
It's on the way!
10565791
Nope. It's a very, very rare event. Especially in modernity.
History repeats itself as soon as the few fools that survived the history are no longer around to remind the rest.
The Moon is a harsh mistress, but the Sun is an even angrier mother.
Gosh but that chapter was, excuse the pun, FIRE
10566004
HAHAHAHAHAHA
10565232
The usual place, digging around in Derpi. Specifically I searched "Celestia, safe, fire". Here's another one that seems quite topical.
derpicdn.net/img/2018/8/8/1801526/large.png
This chapter feels like a wake up for Twilight and a sheet show of force that in this version you dont mess with alicorns or their friends and family.
The combat felt untold but at the same time felt right and left you feeling like magic and power and training could give way to near limitless potential.
This is a nice change not seeing Celestia being useless. The Golden blood seems a little pushing it though?
10566284
The blood is, as mentioned, a reference to ichor, the divine blood of the Olympian gods. A sign that alicorns are no sort of mortals at all, and are indeed deities in a very literal sense. Celestia claims a divine right to rule, and it is no lie.
I too, would faint if I saw such awesomeness occurred in front of me.
Darn good work on the exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up in all the right places. Definitely loved the chat between Gray and that Thestral as they were discussing the latter's birth place as well as Twilight's family before they briefly stopped over at Joe's, in addition to Cadance reflecting on Shining as she was waking up (and, yeah, I shudder to think of how bad she might take it if she finds out about the possibility of competing with both Shroud AND Rarity) and the description of the attack by those traitors and Twilight waking Celestia. Glad to see Celestia and Cadance making quick work of those bums as well as Twilight reaching out to calm down Celestia before fainting.
VERY certainly looking forward to more of this.
10566239
Combat is going to become more in-depth as the story goes on, but I'm glad you liked it in this part.
10566284
Never liked useless Celestia. Or useless anyone, really.
10566304
Yup.
10566798
Good to see the comment. Glad you enjoyed the section with Gray.
(Comment 699 on my own story. Nice.)
The one thing I really liked about this chapter was how you showed the alicorns strength and power while not making them completely over powered. It gives a sense of realism and I find this so much more satisfying then saying they are straight up immortal gods that can never die.
10567286
Just the one thing?
Joking. Glad you liked the chapter.
Do not meddle in the affairs of alicorns, for their vengeance is sure and eternal.
That was fucking awesome, not sure what else to say. This is definitely the best kind of Alicorn in my opinion, the ones that are gods among mortal ponies and I fucking love seeing it. I hope we get a bit more of it in the next chapter and I also love little Twily running straight to the heart of the battle where Cadence is fucking with the wrong filly.
7/10 "Not enough micro transactions."
GameStop
Joking aside, heads are literally go to be rolling for this betrayal. This is the equivalent of Julius Cesar crossing the river(forgot which one) with his legion.
Broke the speed of sound before she even left the bed? Nice. Start to speed of sound, the sound made just after rustling her covers. If we assume that took somewhere around 3 hundredths of a second (probably didnt, guessing...), and that her speed is 343 meters per second, the speed of sound... Thats a bit above 1000 gs. Keep in mind we dont know the period or the real speed, and these are onld guesses.
Jesus, though, even if my math is horribly wrong, thats insanely fast.
God I cant get over how badass this shit is
I can't express in words how happy I am to have found this story. Every time I finish a really good story, I'm afraid that I found the last really good story on Fimfiction. But, lo and behold, there's always one more out there to blow me away with its deep world building, beautiful prose, and spectacular characterizations. Your truly are one of the great authors on this site. Thanks for this story.
