Dusk Shine is Twilight Sparkle's twin brother. They have a lot of things in common, love of magic, love of books, neurosis, but they also have some key differences, and not just what's between their hindlegs.
For my first new story in three years (not that I was updating the other ones) I want to try something a bit simple but with loads of possibilities. While I will be following the order of episodes of the show and going through most, if not all, of them, I promise they will be trans-formative and not simple retrots of the episodes with another purple horse hanging around.
I've often heard it said that Equestria would not survive with two Twilights running around. That just may be the case.

Hey there. I have to say, this DOES look like a good start to the story so far. Admittedly, you're missing the "Alternate Universe" tag, but that's strictly an observation not a complaint. And yeah, great job showing Dusk's differences from Twilight as well as the similarities. The exchanges and characterizations are quite well done and I particularly liked Dusk's scenes with both Fluttershy AND Rainbow.
At any rate, I will very certainly be looking forward to more of this, but will also be fully willing to respect that I might need to be patient.
THis sounds interesting, as far as I can tell, Dusk seems a bit more judgemental and short-tempered than Twilight. I'll see where this fic goes

Not really, if you cast your mind back six years all the way to season 1, you will find a short tempered, neurotic, and highly judgemental Twilight Sparkle. Besides, you can't blame Dusk for his anger, given the circumstance.

The first four seasons really are the meat and potatoes of the entire series. That and, as much as everyone hates to admit it, EQG.
Seems to me like you're trying a little hard to make things happen as they do in the show. That and there's too much slapstick comedy. Otherwise it's an interesting enough premise, executed well enough. Looking forward to more.

VERY good job on this latest chapter. It took a while, but was WELL worth the wait. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up are all well done in all the right places. I particularly liked Dusk's observations concerning Twilight's treatment of books , Dusk's first meeting with Rarity and the dialogue concerning their worries about Nightmare Moon and their efforts to keep calm despite said worries .
Once more, I will definitely be looking forward to more of this. But I also respect how real world concerns and lack of inspiration can creep up when least expected.

Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed it, and yeah my muse can be a real pain sometimes. I always have at least three stories in my head and I can never really focus on one for more than a couple days at a time lol.
That being said, the town hall scene took forever to get to a place I could accept, but I anticipate the next couple of chapters will go much easier.

This is a fun story so far, I like the slightly racy Dusk Shine that colors his view on other pony, and get bitten back in the rump for it, I am guessing that his time representing his family didn't do him any services in taking kindness for what it ii, with not guile or manipulation behind it. I wonder how he feels about being less outstanding then his siblings? I wonder what makes him standout, did he study with his sister with Celestia as a plus one always being Twilight's sister? I wonder If Blueblood was one of his tormentors of when he was a colt?
I can't wait to see what will happen next.

I'm glad to see this is happening again. So, the Sparkle-Shines are a family of canterlot nobility and Dusk Shine has been well-versed in the high society social realpolitik. That explains his attitude and mindset, I hope he'll defrost in time with the story

The exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up are all well done in all the right places. I particularly liked Dusk's attempts to talk his and Twilight's near-future friends out of accompanying them and the others' equally logical retorts about accompanying them anyway as well as the nickname argument (ESPECIALLY concerning "Shiny" [which I'm guessing Dusk argued against because it would be too similar to his and Twilight's older brother]) and how quickly Dusk saw through Nightmare Moon's attempt to trick him disguised as Twilight .
So, yeah, I will DEFINITELY be looking forward to more of this.
This was an interesting story, looks like DushShy ship is in now and now it seems like he is captured by NMM. I Wonder if he will try to bargain for his sister's life in exchange for his loyalty. I can't wait to what will happen next.
