Blade Trail

E

Princess Celestia has failed.

A thousand years have passed since the greatest tragedy of her long life. A thousand years to search for a way to unlock the truth of the Elements of Harmony, and free her sister from madness. A thousand years wasted.

Now, as the sun sets on the eve of the longest day of the thousandth year, it falls to her to face the darkness once more. Assailed by doubts and fears, Celestia is certain of only one thing: that the sun will rise again.

Even if it means the moon must fall.

Set in the same timeline as the war with Sombra in the Season 5 finale.

Thank you. I am honored that you think so.

So.... did she kill her or what?
I need some further information :rainbowderp:

I know the focus is supposed to be on Celestia's conflict, but I found myself really drawn to how well you wrote Applejack.

I'll spare you the details of why, but suffice to say that you captured the Apple family's pain perfectly.

Wow, that was really a tragic story. The drama tag I can get but that ending...Urgh, the feels!

Really well written story in my opinion. The dialog seems to perfectly capture each character's traits/personalities in the universe you've set up. While I'd have liked to see more of this story, it stands well enough on its own that I can accept the way it has ended.

Keep up the great writing!

Now you need to explain how this Celestia stops Discord.

Ya know, since the Elements are the ONLY THINGS that can stop him? (explicitly stated canonically)

Oh that episode had so many plot fails... alt universe and time-travel loop episodes usually do, as the writers can never seem to keep event causality straight in their minds. "Amazing World of Gumball" time-travel episode even made a point of satirically pointing that fact out.

While I wrote it that way for a reason, if I had to give a definitive answer I would say that I am afraid she did.

Thank you! That was the most difficult part of this for me to write because I was never satisfied with it. I'm glad to hear that it turned out all right.

I briefly toyed with the idea of continuing past this point, but I feel daunted by how large this AU is. I may revisit it someday, but I just don't think I am capable of building a world that large while keeping the stories up to the quality they deserve to be. Not yet, at least.

I can think of a few ways that might work, but none of them involve direct confrontation.

This is really good. Properly tragic, the only one who can be considered to have even a vaguely happy ending is poor insecure Rarity, now hopefully a little bit more able to believe in her own talents. Celestia, Nightmare Moon, Applejack and the other Apples...there's so much sibling-related pain and loneliness here.

The ending is great too, those final couple of lines just stomp all over your heart. Well done.

I could see this AU being the one that leads to the Wasteland ending.
