There will be plenty of opportunity to delve into the uniqueness of the residents of Ponyville, as I'm more or less following the chronological order of the episodes of Season 4 onward and am only up to the first few. And as for the Doctor you mention... there will be more than one.

Well if Discord created or exacerbated the mental disorders in Ponyville then .. yea Mindwill's assignment there makes even MORE sense. Living in a town that has stress whiplash , zero to apocalypse in 30 seconds, would make properly dealing with your issues more complicated.
