The last thing to effect me was my little dashie, and although that had a more pronounced effect this still makes me tear up. Best part? Monologue between the father and wife, it reminded me of Dom from gears of war.

558989 Indeed, I suppose I could see the reason behind such a claim, I do, however, think the theme of the human-brony-teen protagonist and the prologue of such stories are rather cliché.
It is merely that the protagonist (usually male) is shown to be bullied, have minimal friends and is destined to save Equestria. The process, however, differs from story to story. Sent to Equestria through death, through coma, through Twilight, through Celestia, through some other pony, by Discord, by some other god or spirit. And turns up as a pony (usually Pegasus, if they are a Pegasus without reason... I hate you.) or in a rare case, a non-pony (Griffin, dragon (Y NO DRAGONS?!) etc.). Really, there is much to choose from, please be creative, make up your own! It's rather fun if I do say so myself...
Also Zecora's rhyming is a bit off...
Instead of: “This boy is unhappy, and his life is quite bad,” She said. “Maybe bringing him here will make him glad of what he has.”
Try: "The boy's life so far has been nothing but sad," She said, "perhaps a change of scenery would make him quite glad."
Zecora speaks of a topic by dancing around it in rhymes, she never directly says what she means, she suggests it then lets her conversation partner figure it out.
