Equestria's monsters wreak havoc on the cities of man, ponies and humans alike are lost as they struggled to find their homes, leaders try to comprehend and control the situation, the true nature of both human pony come into light, and one human's desire for peace could lead to war.

And yet there is always hope for a happy ending.

Special thanks to my girlfriend for her help.

...Interesting.

That's really all I can say. No big/obvious grammar or spelling issues. Not enough material yet for me to really comment on the story.

Favorited for now so I'll know when it updates. Keep up the good writing.

Where are our A-10s?

"Realistic idealism?" WHERE WERE YOU A FEW MONTHS AGO?! I though I was the only one who thought that way about the story! Good to know I was wrong. I love TCB's concept, but I was shocked by how it portrayed us. The ponies in the show are revealed to be quite flawed, this isn't G3 where it's all perfect, happy, smiley land after all. So neither species could be called realistically "human" Man = Devil, Equestria = Heaven is what they simplify it as. If I'm not mistaken, is that title for tropers like me to get? Anyway, good to know, because my very first fanfiction is set in the Conversion Bureau Alternate Universe and kind of going for the same idea. To take the original's misanthropy and kick it in the face! Buck cynicism! My story is meant to make bronies feel awesome for being bronies!

Budget cuts.

Yes, the title is a reference to the Reconstruction trope.
I'm glad you like it.
This story is meant for humans to feel good about being human, and, if any are reading, help ponies feel good about being ponies.
I'm going to do my best to not show any character as just evil. Remember the little girl in the chapter? She had a reason to hate ponies. That's a major theme of the story. As I continue writing, you'll see both evil humans and evil ponies, who have real reasons for being who they are, and of course heroes on both side of the species barrier.

Yet again, an amazing start to another fabulous story. I'm pleased to see the work that's gone into that, from the ranks to the Presidential Cabinet! You ask amazing questions to try to be as thorough as you can. Certainly a realistic take on the situation. A superb balance between somber and sweet. I'm definitely looking forward to more!

Honestly, truly, I hope you'll continue this.

And I'm sure one day, it'll become your magnum opus! ((Maybe with a little help from me. :raritywink:))
I'm super proud of you, and I'm happy to be a part of this! Keep up the good work! (Please.)

Teamwork, love.
Friendship is magic, and all that.

Ooh, it looks like a TCB fic that proceeds to fuck the misanthropy of the original.

Hmm, it looks like mutual cooperation might actually occur and Humanity won't be wiped from the planet.

I'm going to agree with PonyCthulhu. No major problems but not enough story for me to give full judgement as of yet.

The concept was enough to pique my interest. I'll keep an eye on this to see where it goes.

If you want to know what I found that I thought was a problem? You said the military used jeeps. These haven't been used in about 20 years. Just something you should look into, the only little flaw I saw. :twilightsheepish:

434114
With all due respect, having lived near military bases all my life (including Vandenberg and Quantico), Jeeps are still used, at least on base. Considering the tension of the situation, and that resources are running dry, supplies from all nearby bases would be stretched thin. Jeeps would have to be used, particularly given the nature of the situation. They wouldn't spare the expense of a little gas guzzler. :pinkiehappy:

434150
Good point, the National Guard uses older equipment and would most likely be the first ones there.

433070
As for the A-10s, it is implied that the military is trying to keep the beast alive, as they would in this circumstance. Although it may risk more lives, the opportunity gained from capturing a live specimen would be optimal for research, and the best way to understand the creatures. Living specimen often reveal just as much, if not more data, than dead specimen. That being said, the A-10 could possibly destroy the creature, potentially causing its death in addition to causing too much damage to the body. Never doubt the power of the tranqs!~<33

433334 You sir, are my new hero! That's EXACTLY what I'm doing! Perhaps you could give me some pointers? I want to bring the tempered light of rational idealism to this darkened corner of our beloved fandom. If one of us can come out with a story that gets read on Youtube, reviewed on Everfree radio, perhaps even featured on EQD I honestly don't which one it is! This is my first real attempt at creative writing and I can practically taste how much it sucks compared to giants like Through the Eyes of Another Pony! (The very fic I'm trying to be in the spirit of.) Your own fic sets it's tone perfectly in the first moments alone by having Rainbow save those two bystanders! Every one keeps telling me "write for yourself." Problem? 1) This is a fanfiction of an existing property. 2) I'm writing it with a message FOR a VERY SPECIFIC target audience! I've already got Saberspark, PaleoSteno, Jackleapp, and other bronies pulling for me, the LEAST I could do is give them something more than a waste of time!

434361
I'm not that good of a writer, but if you need help writing your story, just ask. I'll do what I can. Happy to help.

434852
Awesome! Thanks, Doctor!

I've been waiting for a story like this, excellent work good sir. Though try to stay away from complete human annihilation, that would suck.

Thank you, King Leonidas!

A 'realistic' take on Earth and Equestria colliding into one world.
Fail on those grounds I fear. The only thing that could respond to a rampaging Hydra in New York as quickly as you show would police helicopters with sniper rifles and/or CS grenade launchers. However neither would require the pilots to get within a hundred meters of the hydra.
:facehoof:
Doing anything else is not realistic. Having a US military turn up within minutes is not realistic. Having the hydra knocking the helicopters out of the air is just plane wrong and just plain silly. So is having Dash know what rockets are. So is the human soldiers seeing her as a cute ickle winged horse and not an ALIEN and potential enemy combatant.
:facehoof:
Thumbs down.

472647
Realistic indeed, actually. Firstly, he never stated that they had shown up within minutes. With all due respect, the police may not have been able to handle the hydra, nor would the military want to risk the massacre. During extreme situations, the military evacuates EVERYONE, local law enforcement included, and takes over the situation. Obviously this wouldn't happen all of a sudden, but military bases nearby are prepared to handle extreme situations. Thus, the US military wouldn't be there within minutes, you are right about that. And for that reason, the author explains the damage that's already been done. Terrorizing so many buildings couldn't have just happened, even by a hydra. This is a while into the attack, not at the start of it.

As for the grenade launchers, the military, despite the stereotype of 'shoot now, ask questions later,' does try to preserve life-- as they would when confronted with a strange creature thus unknown to man. They know the benefits of preserving such life, and would try everything they could to handle the situation without tearing the thing apart.

To address your issue with the helicopters, I want to reiterate that this is a new species. They will need eyes everywhere. They need to assess the damage. They need to see this thing from all directions; they need to make sure the people are safe. Eyes in the air to ensure a best defense. Now, the hydra, assuming it is anything like the creatures of Earth (which we know they are from the show), would partake in a fight or flight response. When suddenly finding itself in a strange situation with loud noises, cars, mysterious shapes, stones, lights, little beings, et cetera, the beast would have to react somehow. Without being able to find its way out in the maze of buildings, and when provoked by police or military forces, the creature would resort to fighting. When a fly buzzes around your head, you swat at it. When a helicopter buzzes around a giant hydra, it will be attacked.

Now, regarding Rainbow Dash's knowledge of rockets... She doesn't know about them, nor does the author ever say that. He tells the audience that she "flew out of the way as several rockets were fired." That is merely narrative. In all actuality, she wouldn't stand there as some fast flying thing comes at her. Certainly not in that situation.

And as far as the alien issue, you are, in most accounts, correct. They would see the ponies as aliens. (Though, every human is different. Some may, after growing accustomed to them, find them cute. After battling beside the creatures, one may even have a sense of brotherhood, which occurs during battle.) However, attacking it all depends on how the military classifies it as a threat. The military's first priority is to take down what is causing the danger- the hydra. In a terrorist situation, the military doesn't shoot everyone who's not white. They don't shoot all the foreign people. They shoot the ones with the guns. The ponies can be dealt with later, but for war concerns, the primary target is that which is destroying the peace. If anything, they see the ponies as assisting them. For now, all of their effort is placed towards the major threat- the hydra.

I sincerely hope you do not believe I'm attacking your character or anything of the sort. I believe you have the right to your opinion, but I have the right to explain mine... This all is coming from a military background. I've lived near bases all my life. My father's a retired Navy CPO, who served in Vietnam. My mother served in the Navy as a Medical Officer. My grandfather served in the Marines in the Korea conflict. My Uncle's served in the Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq. I've grown up with the military, and I've even consulted my father while trying to add validity to the text. Everything else is the creativity which the author put into this work. This is, after all, still fiction.

I'm not going to lie, this is awesome. I am tired of these humans are bastards fanfictions on this site, so it is refreshing to see something like this being posted

475568 did you not read the last part? The bloody guys are testing all sorts of shit just so they have a way to murder every single one of the equestrian e
Residents.

475794

This is only the second chapter.
Pay close attention to each character. Most, if not all of the characters have subtle and/or not subtle motivation for their actions.
The father hates the manticores for killing his wife. The girl hates the ponies because she blames them for the hydra killing her father.
Some of the nations hate America because they're using resources to help the ponies, instead of helping their fellow man.
All evil has a source.
You'll see the source of the scientists' in due time.

475794 Let me rephrase. i meant they aren't as cookie cutter bland evil as the others

I can't help but hear Richard Nixon when I was reading the arguement at the end of the chapter. Seriously, every single one of them a Nixon.

475852>>475968

Alright....

I just get really mad when scientists experiment on ponies

Those humans at the end I shall be first in line to introduce my chainsword when the time comes

There is only ONE U.K not Multiple as it is said

479230

Just because a few scientists work in a darker shade, doesn't mean they're all bad.

472647

Please refer to SkyFlight's comment. She is my editor, and expert in military and government subjects. I just develop characters and write drama.

479230

That's a bit of a blanket statement there, and one that I find somewhat disturbing or even offensive.

Science isn't evil. Science does not make people evil. Using science for horribly immoral ends makes one evil.
Science is neither good nor evil. The scientific method is a tool. The wielder determines what the tool will be used for.
By definition, science is the systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. Science is a way, no, science is THE way to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of reality.

You do not hate scientists. You hate immoral people who use science to further their own selfish desires at the costs of others. There is a difference.

Sorry for the rant, but anti-science sentiments upset me greatly.

About the story itself: I also enjoy the fact that this story largely averts the Humans are Chaotic Evil theme I see in a lot of other fics that feature humans in some way. However, I do not understand why the scientists shown in the story are testing on ponies, at least initially. You'd think it would be more logical to test the creatures that are currently inflicting all of the casualties on humanity, not our potential allies. To do so seems like a bad idea for two reasons: One: you are wasting resources that could be spent on finding ways to deal with the immediate (and quite significant) threat, and two: there is no possible way that doing so is not going to alienate/enrage the one group of non-hostile extra-dimensional beings that is currently helping you against the rest. It seems to me that the only reason humanity is able to even hold their ground is with the help of the ponies, pissing them off enough to cause them to attack you as well strikes me as a VERY BAD IDEA.

Of course, I wouldn't put it past some organizations to be stupid enough to do just that, so... I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.

Looking forward to more.

Note: I am rather tired, so some of what I said may not make sense (I may have misread some stuff as well). Please let me know if everything I typed up is gibberish.

481549

Just wait till the next chapter! :raritywink:

And nope! No gibberish. Let's just say. there's a reason for everything. Glad you like our story! :scootangel:[/color}

481549

I just want to clear one thing up.

"It seems to me that the only reason humanity is able to even hold their ground is with the help of the ponies,"

This is incorrect. The ponies are making this easier, and saving many lives, but even if they weren't there to help humanity, we wouldn't be slaughtered. Don't get me wrong, it'd be much harder. A lot more people would die. Many of the beasts would probably die too. The ponies have the advantage of knowing, and understanding the creatures, at least better than humanity does. With that knowledge, they can point out the weaknesses, and even calm the beasts down to a point where they can be safely transported. Their help is very valuable, yes, but that's it.

Hooray! I love how this is going so far.

Sympathetic non-protagonist humans on FIMfiction? BLASPHEMY!

486729

I love me some some shades of grey. Mmm mmm mmm. Tastes like sympathetic villains. :pinkiehappy:

it is good work. keep it up

Wow. I love how all the Humans all have their own flaws. I also love how the ponies are just as flawed. There's also a good amount of philosophy about morality; I hate philosophy but you incorporated it without it being intrusive or heavy-handed.

490418

I'm glad. One of my worst fears with this story, was being anvily. Ya know, like I'm beating my beliefs into people's heads. Glad to know you don't think so.

490418

That's actually something Zero is VERY good at. In everything I've read that he's written and everything I've helped out with, he always manages to display flaws (however slight some may be) in others, and he always always always manages to include some essence of ethics.

Sequel hook! Any by the by, HOW DARE YOU GIVE HUMANITY AN ACTUAL AND LOGICAL REASON TO BE FEARFUL AND TRAMPLE OVER THE RIGHTS OF OTHER LIVING BEINGS! you sicken me!

520801

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I have a problem! :fluttershysad:

Lovely story. Thank you for making this.

You could probably make a series out of this universe rather easily.

I think this song fits rather well.

Wow!!!!!! A story where Humanity and Ponies merge together in a rocky but ultimately peaceful process.

EPIC!

I FUCKING LOVE this story. This story made my heart soar; it showed the cruelty of Humanity but it contrasted it with heroism, altruism and kindness.

I beg of you, please make a sequel. No, make a whole universe of it! :applecry: :scootangel:

521017
I tried striking a balance. I think its ridiculous to make humanity perfect saints who are instantly right about whatever matter they're involved in. Stories where humans and ponies become BFFs in a day is cute, but unrealistic. This goes the other way. I hate "All Humans Are Bastards." stories. That's just as silly.

I believe humans are flawed, but lean towards good, ever so slightly.

521110
(Waves my hands in the air) Awww yeah.
And hey, maybe I could. Personally, I wouldn't mind people doing insert fics of my work, like with what people do with the Conversion Bureau.

521130
I'm glad you liked it.
And you'll see. If things work out well, I have plans for this story.

Even though I'm a little sad that this ended so soon (I mean, only four chapters? ;_;), it's impossible to deny it: This last chapter was amazing.

Loved this fic, and this "balanced" view of both humanity and ponykind you developed here. It was really interesting to see both humans willing to work alongside ponies, and humans hating ponies. The same way round: it was interesting to see ponies trusting these humans and willing to live alongside them, and ponies distrusting humans, specially after the... uhm... Yeah, after that. The thing in the place Professor Mandela did with the ponies. I can't remember it's name, seriously xD And I'm way too lazy to check the third chapter in order to remember it's name xD
Anyway, that balanced view of both species was quite realistic, and very interesting to read about.

In four chapters, you managed to lay the foundations for a whole new universe yet unexplored. There's a handful of questions that were left unanswered, and a handful of other questions that came up to mind when reading this chapter. I mean, how are ponies and humans going to manage to live together in peace from now on? What happened with the whole "spies and conspirators among the government" thing you mentioned on the third chapter? How much time will pass before the unity behind both species is shattered, or at least comes close to be shattered? And the last paragraph of this chapter is a hell of a sequel cliffhanger. "An old enemy will return, and a new one shall follow it"? People following what Professor Mandela started? "World War Three"?

Whatever you decide to do next with this story, and this new universe you've created here, I shall be waiting anxiously for it :pinkiehappy:

In the meanwhile.... Uhm.... Here's a moustache :moustache: D:

521834

I'm glad you liked it! Balance was one of the biggest themes.

Project Ends. Ya know, like how the Ends Justifies the Means. HA! I'm so clever.

Well, I did mean to leave things open with the end. I don't think anything in life is set in stone. Nothing physical lasts forever, and even some ideas and beliefs can topple apart. I know that one day, America will fall, Humanity will die, and our galaxy will be over. I know one day that will happen, but that's a crazy long time from now. I can answer some questions though.

Officially, humans and ponies will be allies. Equestria will join the United Nations and will be recognized as a country, equal to themselves.
Some humans, like General Fallon, will remain friends with and treat ponies just like how they treat their fellow humans. Some humans, like Luke, will even fall in love.
Others will distrust and forever feel an uneasiness around them.
Same with ponies. Some will learn to trust humans like they were ponies, others will see them as monsters. Some will even fall in love and get married to the primates.
For now, humans will be allowed into cities like Cloudsdale to help deal with overpopulation problems.
For a time, human and ponies will be unofficially segregated, but given time, both sides will assimilate the other. Eventually, human and pony being neighbors to the other will be as common.
The spies and moles and stuff were all captured, or are now on the run. I implied it, but I could have made it more obvious, sorry. The UN hacked the computers at the base, got a whole bunch of names, and started cleaning house.
How long will the alliance last? Probably for a while. Then the two sides will probably hate each other, only to end up working together again, and then only to become enemies again. Only to change again. Just like real nations, official alliances are broken and are remade pretty easily.
The personal relationships the characters have with each other? MUCH different.
That should cover most of your questions.

Ah, yes. You :moustache: me a question, I see. (Strokes mine)

521996 "Project Ends". Oh, THAT was it's name. xD
For a reason I don't understand, today (yesterday?) was THAT day in which I suddenly forget half (?) of the words I want to say. And no matter how hard I try, I can't even remember a damn clue xD

Most of my questions, in a way, were made like... implying?... that there were a bunch of reasons why an hypothetical sequel, or something like that, might possibly be a good idea in a probable future. Anyway, thanks for answering most, if not all, of them

"The spies and moles and stuff were all captured, or are now on the run. I implied it, but I could have made it more obvious, sorry."
Nah, it doesn't matter . I knew that the... governments, secret agencies, whatever/whoever... took care of, at least, a percentage of the moles. Or, at least, that they were going to do so. Again, these questions were made, in a way, with the purpose of giving reasons to continue expanding this world. I'm really sorry if every single comment (4 out of 5. 5 out of 6 if this one counts too. Okey, ALMOST every single comment) on this last chapter so far has brought the "continue this!" thing up, but, I mean, whenever you finish reading a story you like, and if that story somehow has enough potential to be continued in an hypothetical future, I guess it's just normal that everybody is going to, at least, ask for the possibility of a sequel to become true someday :twilightsheepish:

Anyway, it's your decision. And this is still an amazing ending. Giving closure to the fusion between worlds/dimensions, the first contact between species, and Projects Ends, having the Equestrians finally establishing a home on Earth; yet promising not only good times, but also dark times to come soon (or not-so-soon). And leaving some unanswered questions, some of which you have just answered in your last comment. A closure, which I think is better than a "total" and "absolute" ending

Once again, thank you for answering most (if not all) my questions. Though, I've gotta admit it: The "Equestria joins the United Nations" thing, somehow, was something I didn't see coming. It might have been pretty obvious, but I still didn't see that coming :rainbowderp: :rainbowlaugh:

522141

I don't deserve all the thanks. A lot of it also goes to my girlfriend, SkyFlight. She helped me make this story, proofread it, and put up with my obsessive working mentality. I love you, smoochie poo!

Ahem.
If everything goes right, if what I got planned agrees with my future, and if I'm lucky, there will be more to this universe. A sequel? Perhaps. Hopefully. We'll see.

Also, truth be told, I'd love to see some writers try making their own fics involving this universe. Like with what people do with the Conversion Bureau. Maybe one day.
