I have to say, this was one of my top five favorite chapters when I first read this wonderful story years ago. I literally burst out into a smile when I read the final few paragraphs.
Yes. Homagepip OTP forever.

It may shock you... but you are pretty much spamming the comments section now. (The irony!) Either go into PMs or stop, pleaseee?
All right, let's put it this way:
Puh-leeeeseee?

Velvet's asking you. Can you say no to her?

2997292 Well I've deleted my comments, and Iryelb and BG I strongly suggest you do the same, (Myself included) to stop causing further arguments. Because this IS a comments section to politely discuss, stuff related to the story up there, and I have learnt my lesson.
Let the ship begin!

Homagepip woooo
I have to say this chapter always gets me, especially when Littlepip finds Pinkie's last message
Did anyone else feel wave of sadness when reading Pinkie Pie's fate?
On an semi unrelated note, what caliber is little mac? .357 or .44?
2999903
I would assume .44 or even .45-70, since it is loud, powerful, and goddamn useful. Just like the Gun Runners' Hunting Revolver in NV.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you- LITTLE PIP'S STUPIDEST MISTAKE!! Seriously Little Pip, you couldn't have waited 5 minutes before getting the plot important memory orb? Was it really that important?
But, back to what I love
Pinkie's skeleton, no, her entire scene is one of the sadder moments of the whole thing. When I first read this, I broke for a few moments.
and I love Homagpip, they get to be so sweet at times.
I've always been impressed with how you took Pinkie, who's often happy to the point of abrasiveness, and made such a potently sad scene for her. Particularly nice for how it's built up over much of the story, and for the parallels with what Littlepip is going through. It's not some cheep "for the feels" gimmic, it actually has a lot of weight to it. And "message not sent" was just... ouch.
Which probably made the end of the chapter even brighter and happier by contrast. It's good to see Littlepip happy again
3000600
I just read "sweet" as "sweat". Sweet merciful Celestia rutting radhogs in heaven, what is wrong with me.
I know there's more coming from the fact that this is really a completed story being reposted...but I have never read it before.
More!
3001485 Ha! Y'think?
Excellent
Having already read this story two point six six six recurring times and quite thoroughly enjoying it, I think I'll just place an upvote.
3000600 Couldn't have said it better myself.
Pinkie Pie's scene is positively heart wrenching at best and blood-chilling at the worst. I actually did feel like crying a bit.
2999398 That is an absolutely brilliant response to a spammer.
YESSSS HOMAGEPIP OTP
Ah yes, one of my favorite chapters and I think this is the chapter that cemented Scootaloo as my favorite character in the story. I love Littlepip and Calamity is awesome, but Scootaloo... damn... best pony right there
I couldn't stop hugging my pinkie pie plushy during pinkie's final message... This scene and the whole story arc relating to PTM addiction really is one of the greatest pieces of this story. Amazing job Kkat!

An explanation of the mass of deleted comments can be found here: 2999541
In short, two commenters engaged in image-swap spam that lasted two pages. Others asked them to stop (a third person engaging in a protracted argument with one of them about it). The two commenters have respectfully stopped and apologized.
One of them has deleted his or her spam comments, as has the third individual mentioned above. Two comments were deleted by myself -- one from another party whose request that the spamming stop was unnecessarily rude, and one because the picture had unacceptable content.
I'm very happy to say that I have had to delete only a dozen comments in over 27 pages. We've had a couple commenters who have gotten a little too heated responding to each other, few unnecessarily vitriolic opinions about EQD, and the rare racist troll comments. But the vast majority of comments have been respectful and friendly (and most have even been on-topic). The majority of deleted comments on were removed by their posters.
I think that's pretty impressive, all considered. This fandom is awesome. Thank you, everyone!
Two of my favorite scenes in the story are in this chapter. Littlepip's outburst at Velvet and Pinkie Pie's last message are simply excellent.
I think Present Perfect has ruined my perception of Homage x Littlepip. At least a little.
Pinkie's call to Twilight, and the error message... Where did all this water on my keyboard come from?
Pinkie's message to Twilight made me cry a bit....
Does SteelHooves remind anyone else of Vincent from Final Fantasy VII?
Great fic. The clever little references to the show are getting better.
Ohhh, Pinkie. I swear, I was in tears for hours after reading that the first time around.
It's one thing to know that the Mane Six we know and love all met with ends that none of them deserved. It's another to realise that the charred, ruined skeleton you're standing next to was one of them; that it was once that bubbly pink mare full of happiness and laughter.
Celestia and Luna be with you indeed.
well…
congratualtions, author. You succeeded in making me cry, where almost everyone else has failed.
you should be ashamed/pleased with your self

and in my opinion....pinkies death was the least emotional
Oh goodness, let thy ships set sail.
Also, I think I teared up a bit at Pinkie's death. '
SPOILERS
The enemy was zebras all along
This was always one of my favorite quotes from this story, because of how it sounds in my head after Arbu.
For that matter, the title is a piece of another one of my favorites.
Moral drop!
. . . That actually does not look like all that clear of a sentence fragment, is it. But if there's one idea from this story that should stick with you, I think it should be that one. Unless you have no ability to generalize, in which case remembering morals is probably futile anyway.
Ah, Splendid Valley. Aptly named as ever.
. . .
You're not making a very good argument that they're wrong, you know.
Such a plain little sentence for such a questionable operation.
But, hey, it's not like non-ponies have rights.
Understated as always.
If there's one quote that earned you your element . . . it's probably when you have to tell the entire Wasteland that your hero (and marefriend) has gone rogue and should be presumed a threat.
But other than that, yeah, it's totally this.
But it's a fast pegasus-pulled bomb!
You'll learn to love it. And I already explained why you need it, even if you don't like it.
What was that about not using in two days?
Nopony's perfect. All you can do is your best, and the difference between "succeed" and "try but fail" is far less than the difference between "try but fail" and "don't try." So you won't always do the right thing. Learn from your mistakes, and don't dwell.
As long as you worry you're doing the wrong thing, you'll probably be wrong. (Unfortunately, it also tends to hold that if you don't worry, you're wrong.)
Something that just occurred to me now: Monterey's problem is as much how he exercised his virtue then as how he exercises his virtue now. He allowed Littlepip to treat him as an ally, when he had no intention of so behaving. And a lie of omission is still a lie.
A virtue, properly implemented, has many consequences, not all of which are immediately obvious. The six cardinal virtues may seem to be defined to be separate, but they're not. In the case on honesty, one should not ignore the importance of the many implicit social contracts that underlie most interactions.
And so we conclude that he violated his virtue for himself, then held fast to it regardless of the consequences for his children. Both actions were wrong. To truly keep a hold on good, one must have at least one pony for whom one will violate one's virtue, and it cannot be oneself. To behave otherwise either renders one's virtue meaningless, or turns it into a vice, depending on which way one errs.
One of the main points I took away from this story the first time was "find your virtue, and find your friends, or lose yourself." But I realize now, that's not quite right. It's backwards. First, you need friends; nopony should ever wander the Wasteland alone by choice. Friends will protect you, and friends will guide you. Virtues come second, and that is because you only actually need two per group: one to keep you from just doing whatever you want, and another to keep you from blindly following the first when it loses the path. Littlepip does not realize her virtue until her quest is all but over, and this is fine because Calamity and Velvet both know theirs. And then finally comes the decision of where you want to aim for on the spectrum from "does bad things, but at least has clear standards" to "shining heroic beacon of light."
You forgot "inauthentic." And "honest at socially inappropriate times."
How is the Enclave with diplomacy? Does it count as a proper evaluation if they're not trying?
Even two centuries after civilization burned, and even in the case of chasing a dream other than one's cutie mark, ponies still exhibit an unhealthy obsession with a single skill or ambition to the point of frequently forgetting other things they can do or enjoy.
Some things never change.
I would imagine so, yes. Why have I never seen fanart of this?
Seriously, I tried some Googling and there's just nothing. And I don't mean like usual when I try one image search, scroll down a bit, run into some porn tangentially related to my search at best, and decide that I don't actually like image searches and quit. Somehow, for once, there didn't appear to be any porn, and I tried a bunch of searches with no luck before I gave up. How has nobody drawn this?
The way you say that just shows you don't know Pinkie. Nothing gets between Pinkie and a party.
At least it's a steady job.
I'm proud of you, that you don't let yourself get lost in wanting things to be as they appear. I really am.
Pinkie's death is definitely the saddest among the Mane Six. She had to be better for Equestria. She had to be better for her friends. She couldn't be both at once. And in the end, she wasn't good enough soon enough on either scale, and she died in the fires of her failure, alone but for a tiny model of a friend. She took the safety of Equestria from all spies and subversives upon her back, because she was uniquely capable, and it crushed her beneath its weight. Her spirit didn't even get the mercy of a quick death.
I doubt anypony here would feel much appreciation for the irony that a cure for Taint already exists (at least, as much as ever will exist, in all likelihood). Nor would they be very happy about said cure being a closely guarded secret.
Looking over your entire life, this is a good candidate for the stupidest thing you have ever done. Why couldn't you shoot the doctor before rendering yourself immobile and insensate for an unknown period of time? You don't deserve to survive this mistake.
This quote will never get old.
And if there's anypony who isn't the villain of the piece, it's you. The Mane Six certainly were no saints by the end. Tia chose to run from her mistakes rather than fixing them; Luna divided the Elements of Harmony. Littlepip had her Bucklyn Cross, and her friends didn't stop her. Red Eye literally is the villain of the piece. But the three of you stuck together, always, and I believe that always guided you true.
For some reason, this makes me think of Boing from Project Horizons. And not for the reason you're thinking of. It makes me think of how she said, "I can't accept your apology, because that would mean accepting you, and by extension everypony who has hurt me, could have chosen to behave otherwise." The reason is on the tip of my tongue, and it's going to be driving me crazy all night.
Every time she sees DJ Pon3. Every single time.
Why do you think she sings your praises on the radio like a star-struck fanfilly?
I really like that word. "Fanfilly." It just rolls off the fingers so nicely. And it's got a lovely shape. Most words don't ponify as well. Fanfilly fanfilly fanfilly.
Fanfilly.
I see somebody quoting this. Except in that comment, it's "sensually." And so I'm confused. "Sensually" is correct; "sensuous" just means "pertaining to the senses, especially in a pleasing manner." Sensual things are as often sensuous (although sensual expressions are not all that sensuous, as sensual things go), but the converse does not hold. So you having changed the word since the comment was posted is not a good theory; correct words are amended to wrong ones far less often than the other way around (and you don't appear to have edited this chapter since the day you posted it). And I don't think it's very likely that somebody would bother to correct you in such a subtle manner. So I am left unsure of what to guess is going on with that word.
3142869 Couldn't have said it better myself.
2999398 OHH!!!! Shes so damn!! MUST. HUG!!!
can't remember if this was in the last chapter or not but is this...
a reference to paramore?
I get the strangest feeling that Watcher is actually Twilight. If anyone found a way to survive this mess it would be her (in one way or another)
3368252 Ghoul mode activate.
3368252
Nah, im goign with spike, only the mane 6, applebloom , spike and zecora heard flutterguy, zecora never herd the name flutterguy, and only spike used the nicknames, and watcher said something about flutterguy earlier
Success! After a day of getting almost killed several times today she finds her mare!!!
Save the day and get the girl? Today was a good day.
Anvil, haycart, then the piano. I remember that episode of MLP
Im guessing that chared body that was next to the terminal was pinkies. I was always told she died from being addicted to drugs
Now that I think about it, I get the idea that spike is the watcher. All the clues add up to it
This chapter was simultaneously depressing and uplifting.
Is it always female?
U Mad?
scew you man, I literaly almost cried when I relized that the body was pinkie and that twilight never got her message. but I do love the new ship.
Pinkie. Also for a second there I thought the 'doctor' was gonna be Whooves. Thanks for not doing that. Also love the new ship.

It's Not Easy Being Breezies aired this weekend, and we got to see Fluttershy reconnect to her element through the same lesson.
When Homage and Littlepip were dancing, I couldn't help but imagine the song as Bloodhound Gang's Bad Touch. Clearly not the song it was, but I can dream. And Splendid Valley; home of magic toxins, megaspell radiation, retooled in the last months of the war and the first place hit with a megaspell? Clearly our heroes aren't going anywhere near that site to find something bizarre and out of the ordinary. (I have not read that far, but i've read/seen/played enough adventure to see where this is going)
That message, well crap. Damn it. Damn those zebras!
Edit: I was hoping Homagepip would happen but I squeed like a pony when it did. I am very happy she has some-one now. Back to more pressing matters: that sick doctor. Is some-one going to scour his notes and try to finish his cure for Taint? Did the M.A.S. make it accidentally? Trying to make a weapon? So much is going on and i can't wait to see what happens!
Author, are my comments too long? Do I post too many? Again, I love love LOVE Homagepip!
Pinkie's recording making me cry a little this time. Scootaloo, too.
Yeesh.
