A three month survival party seems like incredibly bad taste, especially what with the whole 'everyone getting murdered' thing going on.
Ah, the water-talisman, killer-AI thing. I forgot about that.
That was nice.
2984264
I think it was more of a distraction from the horrible things happening than an actual celebration. After all, LittlePip did note that there were quite a few empty bottles of booze in room.
that is one really stupid A.I
I definitely recommend the Audiobook for this one. Atticus does an absolutely amazing job as Steelhooves
Those memory orbs, man do they haunt me so. Pinkie Pie? Why did you let your judgment slip away like that?! You let your friends down...
When's the next chapter being put on ?
2984651
It wasn't necessarily stupid, just trapped by its programming. It was supposed to keep as many ponies alive as possible, keep the Stable in optimum conditions. When an unfixable, progressive problem arose, the AI had to start killing more and more ponies to keep the rest of them alive and comfortable.
Notice who it kills first: A drunkard. Later, the sick and weak in the medical clinic. The foals in the school, young and weak compared to the more physically able (and capable of reproduction) adults. The pony who tried to fix it, determined to be a threat to its 'proper' functioning. As the water talisman kept deteriorating, it had to keep culling in an attempt to prolong pony life for as long as possible.
When the talisman finally failed, it killed the rest of them a lot faster and probably less painfully than dehydration would.
Just over 1500 views yet is has over 2000 likes. I assume that it just means those likes belong to the people who didn't read but just upvoted.
2985040 A new chapter is released every day. If you want to read ahead, just look up Fallout: Equestria on EQD.
2985113 Something about Google Drive doesn't let me. Some problem with it.
2985174 Okay, you can also read it online here. That'll work for sure.
(Admittedly, I've always been confused when people say that Google Drive isn't working for them. I've used Docs as my daily driver for six years now and have never had a single issue with it. *shrug*)
2985202 Meh I have no idea really to be honesr with you.
2983282 Seriously ? I don't know.
And this is why, whenever I play Fallout anymore, I am horribly afraid of stables/vaults and what I am going to find in there. Once again this fic helps with some subtly dark themes and some nightmarish imagry.
Also I loved the tragedy of Pinkie in this and our secodn sight of the mane six.
YAY!!! STEELHOOVES. The walking tank has shown up!!!

Might I sugget Vault 11 in New Vegas
2985202
It's been lagging for me as well. I mean, Fo:E on Gdocs particularly.
Never trust multinational corporations.
Stick to the family way.
And I've just realised I've used three Applejack smileys in one comment. Oh well.
P.S. "The Stables were never meant to save anypony." God. This quote always gives me the creeps. (Especially given that I imagine it in Ron's voice.) Maybe it's because of that Penny Arcade comic.
2985090
Most of us have read it elsewhere. The story's been around for over two years, but was posted here only recently.
War never changes. People do. I guess in this case it's Ponies but you know what I mean
Relations!
Raiders- Accepted
Talon Company-Accepted
Slavers-Villified
New Apaloosians- Wild child
2988011
Hmm, to think about it, Deadeyes' Raiders weren't really the same raiders as the one that Littlepip encountered fresh out of the Stable. I'd say they are different fractions. Like Vipers and Fiends from New Vegas, for example.

Yaaaay, the little pony in her head!
HOLY SHIT. THE ALICORNS ARE A RESULT OF F.E.V. EXPERIMENTS. THEY ARE BUCKING SUPER MUTANTS. My mind is blown.
>Initiating population reduction.
Oh god
The part where it mentions the the kids and the plasma, I threw up in my mouth a lot.
Someone spent some time with their Fallout Bible before writing this. I approve. Also, surprised no one commented on
Thank you. That little bit of the tutorial always pissed me off, for exactly the reason this fic uses. Of all the places to sneak off to do some shooting, Liam Neeson picked the absolute worst.
SPOILERS
I'll bet I thought of something to put here yesterday. Something either clever and witty or stupid and annoying. Too bad I've no idea what it was
You'll be seeing a lot of that in the future. Steelhooves is not exactly subtle. That bit of his brain was probably so atrophied during his life that it rotted away soon after his death. (His first death, I mean.) Turns out I do care enough to actually use these spoiler bars properly on occasion.
Closest thing to indestructible you can outfit a soldier in without necromancy.
Not if you forget to finish the job. Don't alicorns bother learning anything about their enemies?
That's what they all say.
Halfway to a trick that works almost every time, no matter what alicorns say about never falling for the same trick twice.
A) That's a lie.
B) Masochist much? Sure, he's already dead, but as things stand he's not getting any deader. He's just going to lie there until somepony or something either reboots his spell matrix or decapitates or vaporizes him. And he's telling probably the only pony who will even notice his presence for a while to just leave him?
Though I admit I was never clear if it was truly impossible to remove him from his armor. Sure, he's fused to it, but he can survive being skinned. It wouldn't be very pleasant, but it's not decapitation or vaporization. So perhaps there is a fourth, very painful, option.
I'm not good at rhyming (well, not on demand),
But today, for you, this challenge I'll stand.
All comments I leave 'til I sleep tonight
Will be written in couplets, for naught else is right
As for meter, well, I'll not guarantee.
I'll aim for good flow, but 'twill be somewhat free.
I should leave it at that, for my statement is done,
But three couplets seems wrong, so have another one.
An irate patient, to a doctor, may be quite a pain,
But a medic's patients can't afford to complain.
Do you see a hospital or fancy degree?
So you might as well just accept the way things will be.
That's what all addicts say, and some think it's true.
You're not fooling us. Are you fooling your crew?
(I can't remember quite what I thought last time through.
I may have missed the severity, but I didn't believe you.)
I'll be this exploit made Apple Bloom rather surly?
Her perfect Stable design should not open early.
I'm sorry to say that no diplomat's required.
The ponies within have long since expired.
You didn't call dibs, you can't lay a claim.
Though even if you tried, the result'd be the same.
Few Stables are occupied in this day and age.
Most ponies have left or withered away.
(Shut up. If I want I can write a slant rhyme.
My verse can't be perfect all of the time.)
Would you prefer they not have your back?
Out here, that's a bad thing to lack.
You're trying to hold onto her, but it won't work.
The best you could hope is to be a massive jerk.
You've always known she loves you not;
You're just pining 'cause you think she's hot.
But you've heard it from her, and you'll hear it from me:
She'll not be caged; she must fly free.
She joined the party, and keeps you alive.
Be glad for that, and let love thrive.
You may not be right; maybe only you lie.
It's just hate need not cause love to die.
The duet they sang may have been a clue.
But hardly unambiguous, so don't throw a shoe.
Oh, that'll happen, when you assume
You can pick a lock to an occupied room.
Not your wisest choice, you must agree;
What is seen you cannot unsee.
You shouldn't just avoid your friends;
That could lead you to nasty ends.
"Fine" is not the word I'd choose.
"Working—for now" is better to use.
What's Velvet's religion? I don't think she ever said.
Does she quietly pray? Does she think the sisters dead?
For that matter, has Littlepip yet changed what she had thought?
Or does she not rethink until she sees Canterlot?
"Silly to resist," is what you claim.
Self-control is never a shame.
This is a good thought.
This, though, is not.
The bomb didn't kill her, you can't deny,
And some time since then she'd have to die.
Well, I suppose in this Stable that's not quite true,
But she lacked the proper necromancy to really follow through.
If her soul departed, but she uploaded her mind,
Would one say she's survived all this time?
"You're not working right; give me control, stat."
"I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
Stable-Tec always did the best they were able.
Life in a box is just not very stable.
Actually, you survived, past when bombs and cities fell.
You were the first to really tell the Enclave "go to Hell."
I've always wondered just how smart the computer is.
Was not saying why it was killing a hit or a miss?
And does the upload work? Would it be corrupted?
We've never seen an upload go uninterrupted.
Everypony loves Rainbow Dash.
Were you straight, it wouldn't last.
But just because you love her, doesn't make her love you.
Unless she's drunk, like with Velvet, you'd fruitlessly pursue.
Coincidence, in fact, is not what you'll find.
He's lived quite a while (and not yet lost his mind).
The war inflicted so much stress.
What was simple became a mess.
You can't hide forever.
Even you're not that clever.
3159025
That. Was. Amazing!
Screw my health lets cook up some Party time ment-als!
so much plot twists
3173301
I must admit that I concur,
That was most awesome to see occur.
Now I'm going to have a third read through,
Because of this analysis I can read too.
Yeah that sucks, but I couldn't resist.
Although it seems that my mind must persist.
What a shitty computer! Honey, where's my sledge hammer?
experiment is
Ok I kind of feel sad for the ponies of stable 29 I mean being brutally murdered only after what three months in the stable. but good chapter read the others and I have to be honest , I just couldn't put my laptop down for the past few days it's just that awesome. great story so far this is the first version I've read so after this I will move on to the next one which ever that may be.

Are the feels just not hitting me like they should? I can't stop reading this but it seems like every-one is having 'that feel' and I'm sitting here trying to remember Littlepip has a woman's Voice. Why can't I give her a proper Voice? Agh!
4021828
Try the voice of Jessica Nowack, who voices Littlepip in the Fallout: Equestria radioplay.
Moon Mender!
That was very painful... though mostly because Vinyl Scratch Was killed by a flawed super computer. Guess who didn't get the cutie mark for rational thinking; The Crusader.
Yay! First Stable Dweller mention in person! This was a pretty awesome moment for me.
Kkat, you bastard. That's just mean! Well, as long as Lyra doesn't pop in later...
Wow, that was a good one. Very nice twist, first thing that made me go "Damn, that's dark." followed by "I love this." and VERY different to the outcome of what would have been Vault 29. The scary thing is, unlike in the games, it seems StableTec seemed to believe they were helping people, unlike VaultTec who were helping themselves. Might be speaking too soon for StableTec but it seems at least some of the members in charge cared, but I guess we have to see what the higher members motives were. It's made so much worse when, in the games, the extreme malice of the Vaults made me just wallow in the dark humour of it all, while the Stables were good intentions gone horribly wrong.
Cheer up Littlepip, she has been for 3 or more generations.
I shall always remember this fic. Reading it over again and experiencing the amount of emotion and work put into this fiction is the greatest feeling I have ever felt from a beautiful story such as this. One of the greatest gifts of literature was being able to convey thoughts and emotions through another medium, these elements which can then be passed onto others as a sharing bond of community. Truly a fantastic work, I wish I had paid more attention to it when it was first released and when the chapter updates were continuing.
Chapter 16, that was where I had stopped so long ago.
I was so foolhardy, I wished to have seen its progress to its finale. If you make any other works, I shall be sure not to miss those
Your work still astounds me to this day: a well-written, especially descriptive story that can be read simply and enjoyably without too much 'fluff' in the way.
I wish to pay homage to this fic, with a fic writing of my own once I overcome the dreaded Writer's Block. Oooooooohhhhh- scary
The amount of side-fics in truth had turned me away previously since I will not know if my fic will simply be at the very bottom of a hole, or near the top of the pile. I say: screw that, time to write
My only known certainty, is that I will make it unique and that it shall be a Fallout crossover. I wish for one day where you would be able to see it and laugh at the smart tidbits and references there obviously will be to your story, though I would just be glad knowing that you read this rather long drabble of mine. (Seriously, I can't write? This is possibly the greatest insult to myself, and I revel in its glory )
Your work astounds me, Kkat. I wish you luck in any future endeavors of literature, and I am definitely looking forward to continue re-reading this classic.
Still, the armor had cave in at the point of impact
1. Caved.
I just love how LilPip is frustrated over her love life (if it was existent at all) and would gladly throw in the comment of; 'Hmph, mares' if the speaker wasn't one herself and talking about a couple who were both admittedly near single minded in a sense. Technically when it comes down to it, even she herself can be single minded. I think this is more of a... Very common trait in sapient life and it shows.
One thing that was addressed in the comments was the fact about the AI going rogue and killing to preserve life. That in itself is a contradiction to its programming and of course it can't go against the three laws of robotics which are;
1. A robot may not injure a pony being or, through inaction, allow a pony being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by pony beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
Granted there may be debates of The Crusader being an AI and people say it can think for itself and the rules don't apply but that's where they would be wrong.
Taking a look back at the first law it clearly states that it can't harm the ponies through inaction which would arguably apply to self thinking robots as well. I'm kinda surprised that the AI didn't actually consult another living and breathing pony since it found a conflicting order of culling ponies in order to save them.
Would uploading a different pony mind to be The Crusader have made any difference? Maybe.
Would the supposed emotionless programming take over part of the uploaded personality to make the more efficient? Possibly.
When a choice is presented, many options and possibilities open up from there and we will never know since this choice was made.
Hotel California popped on whilst reading this and let me tell you, I'm emotionally ruined for a good ever...
That was so fucking depressing
3159025 dear lord
Littlepip is right. Most of these recordings are depressing.
That's probably not how Littlepip imagined Velvet lying on her... Also, subtlety was never SteelHooves' virtue...
Best moment to get high, huh?
Oh Littlepip... The world around you has fallen to horseapples and all you can think about are drugs and flanks...
Oh yeah... This Stable is definitely not a nice place...
Oh, I don't think they'll mind...
Blackjack was here?
Meanwhile, 18 chapters later...
They'd have to send someone to find a new one... Oh, wait...
Littlepip, it's no time and place for becoming a new Walter White...
You'll be amazed how creative this shit became...
Soon...
Well, he certainly changed over the last 200 years...
Yeah, right...
A Fallout 1 and 3 reference in one paragraph? Impressive. Also, Stable 29 is Vault 11 apparently. Because 11 was the happiest one of them all.
Holly buck. I just got what the over ride code was. *Facehoof* CMC3BFF
wow ...so the supercomputer pretty much went Red Queen from the first Resident Evil movie on Stable 29 ...that's fucked up! And Pinkie Pie's on drugs, did not see that coming! I love this story!
4961521 Vault 11 was the happiest? That's the one where the inhabitants sacrificed one of their own every year because Valt-tec told them they had to.
Not very happy, I think.
