For so the long the tyranny of those with cutie marks and a realised place in this world has gone undisturbed...but not anymore. The rise of the background ponies is beginning. Royal guards, musicians, shopkeepers, and others alike, who have all been shunned to remain in the background for all eternity...

On a dark night filled with even darker magics, an insane cult attempts to resurrect Nightmare Moon and blah blah blah, except omg it's really just a cute little filly, wowee what a twist.

Now, a little black alicorn with a cool racing stripe in her mane named Pyx (100% original character) finds herself living under the care of a perennially drunk librarian with OCD who really, really wants a foal. Is Pyx Nightmare Moon reborn, or is she simply a terrible OC? Will Twilight Sparkle eventually sober up and let her out of the basement, or is she stuck there forever? Will annoying cameos be given to a bunch of obscure background ponies from early seasons whose existences you've probably long-since forgotten? Or will these roles simply be filled by more terrible OCs?

Or, will Pyx suddenly turn into Nightmare Moon for some reason, and do a bunch of evil stuff for some other reason, and then maybe get redeemed for some third reason? All of these questions and more will be answered. Probably.

This gigantic shitpost exists because I needed something to do for NaNoWriMo 2022, but ran into immediate writer's block in the original project I had planned on doing. Instead of giving up, I decided to do something fun and silly.

This started out as a fairly straightforward satire of Past Sins, and then slowly morphed into kind of a weird dark comedy. The plot loosely follows that of the original story, but many creative liberties were taken, and it can probably be read as a more or less original work. None of Pen Stroke's OCs appear in this story.

I originally had this story rated Mature, but after coming back and rereading it I decided to downgrade it to Teen. There is a small amount of comically-exaggerated violence in here, but I don't think it's really enough to justify an M rating.

As much as it pains me to thank anyone on Reddit for anything, I'd like to thank Reddit user DropTheTubbs for the "Wimpy Kid" fonts used in the cover art. Also, thanks to DeviantArt user AibotNya for the original illustration of disguised Nyx, which I traced (badly). April 14th, Equestrian Year 3584
14:00 hrs

The Great Spell, an event that shook the very core of Equestria, occurred on this date. Many have heard of the event, even in Little Filly School. A darkness took to the sky, coming from the Valley of the Shade, within the Equestrian Border. The princess was nowhere to be found. Random citizens were turned insane by the event. Then, after the Seven Hours, the darkness faded, along with the insanity. The princess returned, shaken but no worse for wear. She announced it was nothing to be afraid of.

Few comprehend the magnitude. For this nation, this nation of prideful ponies, almost fell.

Whispers went around. What had happened in the Valley? Who was responsible? Would the day return when insanity fell once more? In time, all wounds healed. The whispers died to low rumblings on the underbelly of society. Those involved were not talking. Anyone else who seemed to continue to talk simply faded into the wallpaper. Eventually, the incident was uncovered. An explosion at the Weather Factory, which had been doing renovations at the time.

It would seem the nation's past is as checkered as most.

It has come back to haunt them, on the eve of a momentous occasion.

Now, the task rests upon two unicorns of two very different backgrounds.

The first being Twilight Sparkle, one of the strongest beings in all of Equestria and loyal student to Princess Celestia. Her abilities are unparalleled and her destiny is set in stone. She is to become the new princess. Will her talent of magic win the day and allow her to continue her mighty deeds?

The second is a lone being who has long developed his talents in the night. His association with the royalty has made him a valuable ally and his revelation and power could shift the tides fully in the favor of the ponies. But is his past just as jaded as Equestria's, and will his vengeful spirit ultimately fail him?

The days count down, and the minutes tick by. Destinies will be realized. Mortals will become legends. And legends will become gods.

This is a shipping story (or part three of said shipping story) between commentators, BronyBurningAxe and CoHNaturesFury.

Also featuring Melon Corvick, DemonAngel 13, MrCobaltSky, and to a lesser extent (since she's a background pony, but not on the list) Aura from this song-- what I wrote the lyrics for. (Yes, I know that wasn't proper grammar. But then again, neither am I).

Acting as a continuation of my other piece, "A Paladin's Account," this piece provides a little more of the background of the Palaces and Ponies project as well as more about the paladin character, Glint Hoof. A potential for romance exists as Glint meets another earth pony by the name of Berry Twist, who shows him how to still enjoy the joys of life, despite the pallor currently hanging over Equestria. Unable to dwell for long, there isn't time for much to happen between the pair, but neither will soon forget one another.

Patches and Bill, Private Investigators (License Pending) are asked to use their snooping skills for the good of pony-kind when a murder (something almost unheard of in Equestria) threatens to upset the peaceful town of Ponyville. Since a gig is a gig, the duo agree to solve the crime. But they do things their way, no matter what the locals think of their methods.
Twilight Sparkle will learn no lessons of friendship from these two.

A little background: Patches and Bill are two detective characters who first appeared in one of my earliest written "works", a screenplay I co-wrote in high school with a friend. I've grown quite fond of them, and whenever I find myself in a new location or situation, I try to write a related Patches and Bill story as a sort of right of passage.

Patches and Bill stories tend to be dark and irreverent. They also usually feature innocent or hapless characters getting harshly alienated by the detectives. For this reason, I don't expect an overwhelmingly positive reaction to this fiction. But I feel I have to start somewhere, and this project is one I can get off the ground easily. I guess I shall make it my goal to ensure that my next project is one that will earn general approval from the community.

The one thing I can try to justify this story with is that I have seen relatively few fics where multiple human characters arrive in Equestria together. I am confident that this situation would be radically different from a "lone human" story.

I wish to achieve the following with this fanfiction:
Keep a reasonable amount of focus on the established characters of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Write something that is funny.
