With Adagio home sick, Aria and Sonata find themselves competing for a cash prize at the Sisterhood Social. They might have had a chance too, if they had known the event was hosted by one of the girls who ruined their lives.

Sonata Dusk decides to spend a day at school, but she's confused about where to go or what to do. Luckily, Sunset Shimmer is such a good student and offers to show her around.

I hate not being able to sleep. You lie there, staring at the inside of your own eyelids and waiting, but it seems like morning never comes. Nothing to do but stare at the walls or think about all the stuff you're usually too busy for. Just be alone in the dark and quiet with your thoughts, pondering existence and history.

All that pondering would be easier if it weren't for that air-headed twerp snoring next to me.

Now in her late forties, Sunset Shimmer has built herself a career as a doctor. She has devoted her life to helping others, be it by prescribing pain killers or simply bandaging a scraped knee. A part of her longs to return to Equestria, but she is mostly happy with her new life. However, one day three very familiar girls drop by her office, one of them injured. Old memories flood back as Sunset is shown an unexpected harsh reality related to her high school life.

Maybe losing to the Rainbooms wasn't such a bad thing. After all, Aria still had her best friend by her side. A best friend who was just the worst...

An argument and a car crash leave one of the sirens--Adagio, Sonata, and Aria--dead. They know this because Death itself has shown up to chat with them and to ensnare Adagio into a game of wits with the very lives of her companions at stake. Adagio doesn't want anyone to die, but she's not so happy with the way they've been arguing so much lately either...
