Most cutie mark stories are happy, exciting tales of finding one's special talent. But not Mac's story. And after Apple Bloom gets into a fight at school, Big Macintosh decides it's time he told her his own cutie mark tale.

Caution: Feels inside.

Gardening used to be a simple hobby in the human world before Equestrian magic complicated things. Principal Celestia finds herself faced with a problem no amateur botanist should have to confront: singing plants. Luckily, the mirror portal offers easy access to one of the best magical horticulturalists in the multiverse – one with more than a century of experience, who is not about to let herself be outsmarted by a bunch of overgrown weeds.

Written for Aragon's Comedy (Is Serious Business) Contest with the prompt We Learned Something Botanical. An alternate take on the Equestria Girls short “My Little Shop of Horrors,” set in the Oversaturated world.

Reading Oversaturation is helpful for context, but not necessary to understand this story.

Rated T for some “adult” references, just to be safe.

Something evil has found Ponyville. The town's children are disappearing, each disappearance preceded by a dream of an impossibly thin stallion.

When somepony she loves is the next to vanish, one young farmer must venture into the forest to find her. Once there, she will encounter an ancient force. It is powerful. It is terrifying.

It is hungry.

Amazing cover-art by the equally amazing Swirling Line. (She's also doing a stellar comic adaptation. Stay tuned!)

Apple Bloom is left to handle the majority of the work on Sweet Apple Acres since Applejack and Big Macintosh have to leave to help out on another family farm for a couple of weeks. Granny Smith is helping out wherever she can, but the majority of the labor rests in Apple Bloom's hooves. While she's not the inexperienced filly she was years ago, does the young mare have what it takes to run the Apple family farm in Ponyville while her two older siblings are away, or will the monstrous load of work be too much for her?

NOTE: This work began before season 3 commenced. Certain elements of it, therefore, will clash with some of the developments of season 3 and onward (including things like Princess Twilight, the fate of Apple Bloom's parents, cutie marks, etc). With that in mind, enjoy!

But is it really just Applejack underestimating a bunch of old mares, or is there something else afoot? And is there a reason why Granny Smith and the other Gold Horseshoe Gals didn't speak up sooner?
