Starlight Glimmer has never been very good at the whole 'friendship' thing. Her track record speaks for itself about her poor decision making in the past and all the heartache that has come from her mistakes. She is determined to do better with Twilight Sparkle and her new friends in Ponyville.

Except that Starlight is not very good at learning from her mistakes.

Winding up in a dark bar on the streets of Canterlot, Rainbow Dash finds herself meeting up with a mare who is elegant, graceful, and totally gorgeous. All the qualities that Dash thinks she completely lacks. What the heck could they have in common?

On this particular night, far more than she might realize.

During a party in her honor, Rainbow Dash reflects on how it really feels to be a Wonderbolt... Are dreams that satisfying? Is there a pony to save her from herself and her (well-hidden) insecurities?

Twilight Sparkle has a big day coming up, and a dragon around to remind her of it in no uncertain terms. But her heart doesn't seem to be entirely in the swing of things, and she can't understand why. Sometimes, it might not be such a good idea to listen to your heart.

I've had a long life. I've loved, and lost, and laughed, and cried. I've met more ponies than almost anyone else. But I can feel it all drawing to a close, and this story is nearing its completion.

We never realise just how much some ponies mean to us until they're gone, and there is always one pony in particular that means the most. And when that pony goes we can do nothing but remember them, try to keep them alive in thoughts...

When Twilight suggests she and Rainbow Dash visit an old crime scene, Rainbow leaps at the opportunity. Murders, mystery, drama, action -- who doesn't love that? It's sure to be a riveting story for the ages.

In the fourth year of Doug's arrival in Equestria, Applejack and Pinkie Pie expand the members of Herd Apple, with Fluttershy apprehensive but hopeful with her choice to be next. Rainbow Dash's venture with Sunset Shimmer takes a heavy toll, the pegasus now on the road to recovery.

Reading of previous books is not required, though some events from earlier years may be referenced.
