During an experiment, Twilight manages to bring a bottle containing a mysterious orange liquid into Equestria. Her curiosity gets the better of her and she decides to taste it, purely in the interests of science.

She soon finds that the pony body isn't designed to handle the awesomeness that is Irn Bru, at least not without some rather odd side effects. Side effects that her unfortunate assisstant will now have to put up with...

Twilight can hardly believe it when a walking, talking corpse of a pony shows up on her doorstep asking for directions. Even more unbelievable is that the undead colt wishes to find his murderer so he can return the weapon that killed him. Twilight halfheartedly agrees to help him, and finds herself stuck with what is possibly the most cheerful cadaver conceivable.

For years now, Spike has been known as Twilight's baby dragon. But how much longer is he to remain a baby? When can he finally be teenager, all leading up to a big, strong adult dragon? With each passing year comes more questions and even less growth on his part, him staying the same size as ever. It is only with a final confrontation with Twilight on his thirteenth birthday does Spike learn the real truth. Dragon immortality isn't all it's cracked up to be.
