After overcoming himself, loyal guard and not-so-optimistic Thunderblast must face new challenges when he learns that he is being transferred to the Equestrian Army. Surely if he's a good guard, that means he would make a great soldier, right?

A group of researchers under the employ of Princess Celestia come across a very important discovery and the princess herself is called in to assist. Something has been lost in the tundra around the crystal empire.

For one thousand years, Celestia remembers the day she banished her sister, the worst day of her life. Though she's learned to hide her agony well, she still can't stop her great regret.
Every day is harder, but she has to suffer through this.

Author's Note: Although this story is a sequel to 'What Comes Next,' it functions solidly as a standalone feature, and an excellent entry point into the 'What Things May Come' Trilogy. It does, however, feature prominent spoilers from the first story.

Ponyville works to rebuild after a devastating attack leaves much of its infrastructure battered and broken, but even as the town pulls itself back together, it soon becomes clear that not all is well. A dangerous, mysterious, and seemingly omnipresent foe emerges from Pinkie's worst nightmares, and may be to blame for the disappearance of Ponyville's own. However, they must rise to the occasion, or their subjects and their kingdom will be crushed underfoot by the monsters that seek to devour them all.
