Signal Boost: The Writeoff · 6:21am Mar 6th, 2020
Many of you have heard me sing the praises of the Fimfiction-adjacent Writeoff, run by a wonderful guy by the nick of RogerDodger. Well, sit tight, because I'm about to do it again.

Hey friends,
I'm going to beat the same drum I always beat -- if you want to be a better writer, you need to do three things:
1. Write (duh)
2. Get feedback on your writing
3. Adjust your writing based on the feedback
Repeat until you're happy with your writing.
I've been idle a bit, but I'm almost free of responsibilities for the year. That means there will be stories and projects again soon, yay!
Now, in the spirit of EatTurkeyUntilYouPeeNeonYellowRazorGravyFromYourAnus Day (it's a USA thing, don't worry about it), here are the "recent locations" on my desktop:
I have no clue what most of these places are.
This is my fic from the Writeoff that ended this morning. It won 4th place—barely missing a medal. But it's still an honor, and naturally I'm thrilled so many ponies enjoyed it.
Howdy, friends! I’ve got two more relevant items to throw your way this week.
Hey everyone! It's now October 30th, the opposite side of the year from Halloween.
Just wanted to remind y'all, if you've got a story you want to submit to the annual Nightmare Night in April writeoff, the time to do so is in the next 24 hours!
Also, chapter 9 of Displaced Into Nothing is incoming...
In case y'all haven't seen, this year's Nightmare Night in April is going on, and the folder is open for submissions. If you're interested in writing a horror story this month, you have about 2 weeks to do so and put it in the write-off folder.
I made a mistake today. It was a tiny mistake, but it feels like a humongous one.
Learning to put mistakes in perspective is something I'm still learning how to do, since finishing my course of electroconvulsive therapy.
This silly pony helps me in so many ways.
I always did it with Skittles and Starburst instead.
In other news, I entered the latest Writeoff, and have been... really slacking off on getting writing done. But today is different! I've written over 3,000 words already today, and read four short stories.
Hey folks,
Been a little while since I posted a new story to the site. Life got busy around the New Year, and I didn't have as much time to spend on my favorite hobby as usual.
Wow... Ok guys, I've been looking over these entries and...
I don't know how I'm going to pick any winners.
All of these are really good in their own way. I feel like I might just scrap the "single-winner" concept of a contest and go with an "everypony wins" type ending here. Honestly, everypony worked hard, and I actually like those sorts of scenarios better, but I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do to make that meaningful at some point...
A few months, I submitted a story called The Party Decides to the Writeoff, about
the Republican Establishment joining together Voltron-style to take on Donald Trump. I figured, on the eve of the final day of the Republican National Convention, it is time to show it to you folks before it goes stale. It has been lightly edited from its original form.
I hope you find it amusing.
It's April, which means it's time for the annual Horror Write-Off I run every year, Nightmare Night in April!
The event is simple: in order to encourage more horror writing, I hold a write-off event in which anyone can submit a Horror Story, to be compiled by April 30th, the opposite day of the year from Halloween!
For those who haven't seen my post about it a few days ago, it is once again April, and as I've done for the last few years, I'm running my horror event, possibly for the last time...
Recently, I put one of my stories into a group that takes story submissions and then somepony decides if yours is worthy enough to qualify.
Here's the problem. I don't remember doing this. I probably did it by mistake.* I hope I did it by mistake, at least; with the depression my memory has been execrable.
... the rap battle.
Part of the process, of course, is starting.
If you have a wacky story, you should make sure to submit it either tonight or tomorrow morning (sooner rather than later if it's your first on the site), so that we can flood the front page in the morning! I hope to see some serious lulz when I log on tomorrow!
For those who missed it, Crackfic Storm 2024, the yearly writing event where we write stupid stories for April 1st, is underway.
This be the last year I run this, so be sure to write something if you want to get in on it! You have a little under a week to get a story written in time to submit on March 31st!!
