Not with a bang, but a whimper

Hey friends.
I didn’t used to believe in writer’s block as such. I always thought the phenomenon was a manifestation of something else in a person’s life. I also thought the cure for it was just to sit down and write any garbage you can. Editing should never mix with drafting, and if you can get yourself to stop editing, you’ll achieve more and better drafting—which can then be edited.

Time's gotten away from me.
2020 got weird. My 2021 started with an honest effort to get back to normal. But after I started getting treated for depression, I began to see more and more ways to improve things in my daily and family life that hadn't fit together very well in years. Howdy, friends! I’ve got two more relevant items to throw your way this week.

First of all, there’s a cool new type of Writeoff going this weekend: one I created myself! (Under the auspices of the Writeoff’s new groups functionality, and with the support of many awesome people who joined in.) If you’d be interested in trying to write a 750-1250 word story for the prompt “Uncharted Territory” during the next ~45.5 hours, please come check it out!

(This being a new feature and the first contest created therein, the Writeoff site has kind of buried it deep in a sub-page, so I fear it’s not getting much foot traffic from people who just check the front page.)

And second, it’s been too long since I’ve had fresh new horsewords for all y’all. I should soon be able to remedy that if all goes well. I first teased my cover art for An Apple Asunder over a year ago, but it’s taken surprisingly long to get such a short little fic cleaned up.
