'Let's Pretend' is my favourite game. Someponies play it for fun. Someponies play it for life. When four little fillies and their trusty companion go on an epic adventure through black liquorice jungles and dark chocolate swamps to uncover the Lost City of El Chimichanga and the endless fountain of chocolate within, they find that some games can be played for Love.

My entry to the Equestria Daily Summer Writing Competition. Prompt: Write a story about ponies... from a non-pony's point of view.

Rainbow Dash was the Iron Wing. She was a war hero, the Slayer of Shadows, the Liberator of the Crystal Empire, the Wrath of Celestia. And depending on who you ask, she still is.

But the war is over. There's little need for a pony like her in peacetime. So she keeps telling herself that she needs to adjust, that she needs to find a new role to fill in the world that she saved. But Equestria seems content to let her remain what she has become, even though they have no need of a warrior.

"This isn't how it's supposed to be", is something she keeps telling herself. But every time she says it, the only thing she can reply is, "so what should it be?"

One whole year after the close of the war, and Rainbow Dash still doesn't have the answer.

When Pinkie Pie declares that she's taking a day off to have some alone time, her friends can't help but be deeply concerned--after all, what is Pinkie without a party to throw? But, as far as Pinkie's concerned, a party is a party, even if there is only one guest. Even is that guest is herself!

I come here sometimes and bring them out again.

It's okay to hate them. I don't hate myself.

It's okay to hurt them. I won't hurt myself.

I want to smile like them. I don't smile for myself.

Pinkie Pie Eats a Lot of Sugar and then viciously conquers Equestria in this Speed Writing Challenge which ended up taking about 32 minutes when all was said and done.

Pinkie Pie has an existential crisis while painting her room. This self-parody is dedicated to Professor Piggy, who once told me that I could write a story about Pinkie watching paint dry and weave it into an incredible psychological journey. Let's see if he was right.

The pills were first advertised in the local newspaper. The advert was simple: a yellow smiley face held in a hoof of a pony. Underneath the image were three words:

YOUR HAPPINESS, GUARANTEED!

Naturally, Pinkie just had to see if they worked as promised. After all, happiness with no side effect was a tempting offer.

This story is not about mental health medication, it was intended as a thought experiment about happiness. Also, We Happy Few came out a lot later than when I wrote this! I'm well aware there are similarities, but I wrote this quite a bit before it came out.

Trixie is a happy mare, now that she is Princess Luna's commander of the Undercover Police she haves everything she ever wanted: money, power and even the legal right to insult Princess Sparkle every time she wants without consequences. But one day doing community service in an orphanage, one colt calls Trixie’s attention and steals her heart. A different boy and a great challenge before her but there’s nothing Trixie can’t handle, so as Pure Soul.

This story is set on the Spike Lord of Chaos timeline, but has nothing to do with the main story.
