Applejack checks up on Rainbow Dash. She hasn’t been doing so well since recovering from a car crash, and everyone can see it, but nobody dares to confront her. Nobody but Applejack, at least. It’s always the same song and dance, but nothing lasts forever.

After a particularly rough day of flying, Rainbow Dash crashes at Sweet Apple Acres with a dire need for preening. Applejack is more than willing to help her marefriend in whatever way she can.

Hey everyone! This is my first time writing anything substantial in the past three years, and I have to say that it feels good to be back. This was a quick little thing written for the first Preening Group Contest, partially at the insistence of a friend. There was no editor involved, and it took slightly under an hour and a half. Kind of slow to write, but I'll improve.

Rainbow appears at Applejack's in the middle of the night with an odd request.

Originally written for a Quills and Sofas speedwriting contest with the theme "appledash" (romantic or platonic) and the prompt "the aftermath". It also doubles as a birthday gift for Luna! Happy birthday! Originally written in 75 minutes, this version has seen some expansion and editing. Applejack has been asleep for a week, trapped in a strange recurring dream that neither medicine nor magic can wake her from. In desperation, her wife Rainbow Dash takes her to Zecora for help.

With Zecora's help, Rainbow Dash enters Applejack's dream to try to find the cause of it. They find that the farmpony is cursed, trapped in her own mind by a lie⁠—a powerful one. To break the spell and wake her up, Rainbow Dash has to uncover Applejack's lie, and the truth behind it.

But what could Honesty herself be lying about, and why?

For the past year, or so, Rainbow Dash has not been living comfortably in her own home. Her father walked out on her, and her mother has become a heavy drinker. All of that alcohol intake has caused Rainbow Dash's mother to be physically and verbally violent towards her daughter. The athletic Canterlot Highschool student has yet to tell a soul on what is going on at home. This is her struggle.
