Two centuries have passed since Nightmare Moon's banishment, yet everypony's fear for nightfall still paralyzed Equestrians in every corner of the realm. Princess Celestia tasked her young student, Glissando, to venture into the world and soothe the hearts of her subjects before terror consumes them.

Now, five years later, Glissando has returned home as a grand maestro with his answer: a song to reshape the very foundations of the world and banish the darkness forever.

Octavia Melody's love of music has revolved around a single influential and prestigious work of art, the song May Our Sun Shine Forever. Since she was a filly, what has been the Equestrian national anthem for generations has continually inspired Octavia to perform, shaping her into the promising cellist she is today. Though the completed original was lost to the passage of time, the remnants of the final masterpiece composed by the Grand Maestro Glissando has been the cornerstone of not only Octavia's career, but modern music theory in Equestria.

When the tattered remains of an ancient songbook possibly containing the original song in its entirety is found, the Equestrian Society for the Performing Arts and Princess Luna begin planning a concert series to celebrate the work's eventual restoration. However, their meeting screeches to a halt once Princess Celestia vehemently forbids anypony from playing the original in the concert and demands its restoration to cease immediately. Octavia Melody finds herself at a loss, wondering why the princess of the sun would silence such a beautiful song meant to bring light to the world.

Severe thunderstorms are a commonality when living in a mountain fire lookout tower; an event that comes and goes with ease. However, when a storm takes a turn for the worse and causes the resident lookout to fall unconscious, the scene that greets him on awakening is about as unsettling and unwelcome as can be.
Or is it?

With his radios and cellular service cut off, Equestria's first human visitor is left to his own devices to figure out why he and his tower are now in the middle of an mysterious and dangerous forest. Well, at least the clouds still move on their own, that's a good thing, right?

Look out Equestria, there's a new human in town!

Assisting them are two ponies who have dark intentions of their own. Sunny is still recovering from the effects of her curse and has no hope left for the future… until she discovers the plans that these villains have for her friends. She needs to find them and warn them. All of Equestria will be at stake.
