    Ciderfest's Scattered Pages Wrap-up!

Aside from contests and invitations to do things, I believe all of us here in Fimfic should get to hear about awesome things created by our community of writers.

It was not so long ago that Vivid Syntax reached out to me about a project he was working on. I admit, he wasn't the first to ask (that dubious honor goes to Nyronus) for me to work with them on it, but this time it was a request to reach out to all of you to see if you wanted to participate in something new and daring.

Ponyville Ciderfest: Last Call for Writers, Editors, and Actors

Ponyville Ciderfest: Last Call for Writers, Editors, and Actors

The words are flowing at Ponyville Ciderfest! This year’s convention theme is all about writing, and we’re celebrating with a ton of amazing events, including an interactive storytelling experience!

We’ve already got over sixty active creators and one-hundred stories as part of this project. We’d love to include everyone, but since we need to start finalizing so we can move onto the next stage:

The last day to sign up is Sunday, July 9th.

How does it work? Our writers are helping in three main ways:

    1. Hidden throughout the convention, we’ll have secret code words that can be entered into the PCVF companion app. When an attendee enters a code word, they’ll be presented with a short story (written by the writing team!) and get to make a choice that impacts the events at the con.

Twilight's Book Nook at Everfree Northwest!

D This Is Not A Contest Blog, What Is Happening!?

In 2019 Aquaman organized a bookstore booth at Bronycon. It was such a huge success and gathered so much attention that several of us, including: Capn_Chryssalid, PaulAsaran, yours truly, Monochromatic, Corejo and many others spent a considerable amount of the convention coordinating with security, selling books, engaging people and generally having a great time.

The best thing? The bookstore was incredibly successful. We had a line of people that we had to split into parts and arrange along the wall because of the interest people had in our stories.

    Everfree NW Scribblefest 2017!

Everfree Northwest, Seattle's premier pony convention is known for having one of—if not the—strongest writing tracks in the MLP fandom. As part of that, we run an online writing contest (now called "Scribblefest") every year. Entry is open to everyone, whether or not you attend the convention.

Like last year, we’re giving out six special awards, each of which comes with a $20 Amazon gift code!

This year’s prompt is: Growing up wild and forever free

    Awards

    The Jaw-Dropper Award ("The Dash")

We all know the type, the stories that make us go "Holy cow, THAT just happened!" This would go to the story with the best twist, surprise, or simple moment of hoof-pumping awesomeness!

    The D'aww Award ("The Fluttershy")

A staple of ponyfic... the story with the sweetest, most touching moment that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Nasally Ejected Beverage Award ("The Pinkie")

Conventions » Scribblefest 2018 Winner's announcement! · 8:19pm Apr 22nd, 2018

After much deliberation, reading, rereading, and judging we finally have our winners for the Everfree Northwest Scribblefest 2018!

I want to first congratulate all of you who submitted your hard written stories!  We had a field of 30 contestants, and that’s amazing! Thank you so much for all your hard work that you do!  Now, without further ado, our finalist and their respective categories!

Twilight Sparkle Award
Admiral Biscuit with “Spring Comes to Snow Hill”
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/402773/spring-comes-to-snow-hill

Three stories were nominated for Twilight finalists, and Admiral Biscuit ran away with votes from every judge for it.  We loved the attention to detail that really fleshed out the cast of original characters. The attention to detail for such a gorgeous one off with new characters made this an easy win for the Twilight Award.

Rarity Award
Writing Spirit with “The Drifting Chariot”
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/399809/the-drifting-chariot

So… usually Rarity awards are about beautiful prose, glamour, and some light drama.  Then there was Writing Spirit’s piece, that beat up our feelings in a terribly wonderful manner.  The Drifting Chariot explored some very difficult themes in an utterly gorgeous and compelling way.  Heartshine cried reading it. Enough said.

Rainbow Dash Award
BlazzingInferno with “The Root of the Problem”
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/402740/the-root-of-the-problem

The Dash Award this year goes to the Root of the Problem, with a very charming, if hilarious story about Spike, Rarity, and growing a flower.  Together. Sort of. All of us were laughing at the end of the story, but we felt that Spike’s determination throughout the story made “The Root of the Problem” bloom into the Dash award spot.

Pinkie Pie Award
Kris Overstreet with “For the Love of the Love of the Game”
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/402619/for-love-of-the-love-of-the-game

Oh my gosh.  So the Pinkie Pie award has to make you laugh, obviously!  What would a story from the Pinkie be without laughter? Well, Kris did an amazing job of doing just that.  While reading about Rarity doing something for her dad in the most hilarious way had us gasping for breath we were laughing so hard.  Amazing job, Kris!

Applejack Award
Georg with “Falling Leaves of Oak”
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/402723/falling-leaves-of-oak

The Applejack award was one of two stories with four nominations for the finals, and Georg ended up walking away with most of the votes for the Applejack category.  We loved the lesson that was built into this piece, and we felt that Georg did a wonderful job tying in the theme this year with the Aesops that we come to expect from a well written episode of the show.  Falling Leaves of Oak gives us a story from the very interesting perspective of a stallion whose profession is dying, but is still very important. It explores themes of legacy, loss, and the hope for the future that comes from those younger than us.

Fluttershy Award
Posh with “Be Good to your Daughters, for They Become Mothers”
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/402757/be-good-to-your-daughters-for-they-become-mothers

The Fluttershy award saw some of the fiercest competition this year between the nominees.  But in the end, Posh’s story about Pear Butter and Granny Smith won us over with its sweetness.  It’s raw. It’s touching. And it does a good job patching up a hole in the show canon that would be very difficult for them to touch.  Heartshine cried reading this one too. We’re not sure if that’s indicative of anything, but two of the six winners managed to do that.

Thank you all for participating, and for your patience as we got everything judged! Winners will be notified and sent their prizes as soon as possible! We hope to see all of you that participated at Everfree NW 2018!

I'd like to thank everyone at the Academy who stayed with me during this... Oh, wait. Wrong award.

Thanks, guys! And thanks to all the other contestants and most of all to the judges who took time out of their busy schedules for this. See you at EFNW.

4845325
I see you also put a tree in yours. :rainbowlaugh:

Congrats to everyone!!! You folks are amazing!

I didn’t even know Scribblefest 2018 contest. Anyway, can people still go to EFNW even if they didn’t enter the contest?

4845337 Hey, we both wrote rather sappy stories. (I'm sorry⁽*⁾.)
(*) No, I'm not.

4845345 Yes, of course (or it would be a *very* small convention)

4845349 Even if I didn’t win, I’d still would want to go to EFNW at one point. Or maybe BABSCon. Either one of those would be pretty cool.

I'm disappointed that my story didn't make it as one of the winners, but I hope at least it will get noticed at Everfree Northwest Brony Con in Seattle.

Congrats to the winners!

Thanks! I’m glad I could get you all laughing :pinkiehappy:

4845349
I think it’s fair to say all our entries grew on the judges.
Not sorry at all

FYI: Kris Overstreet's story For the Love of the Love of the Game triggered a wonderful Never The Final Word 2 entry:
FOME's Most Valuable Princess featuring the Alicorn of Carnage

Thanks for the honor! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sadly, my day job is selling things at conventions, and Seattle is too far for me (normally) to drive on business, so I'm committed to an event in Arkansas that weekend. Have fun on my behalf!

*first thing that came to mind: Why the hell am I getting an alert from the Con. Second thing:* Congrats guys

Well... I hope I at least left an impression on someone with my story.

4845395
Congrats :) and enjoy the con

Well, maybe I’ll win next year when I can go :)

Looks like I have several more stories which will be added to my reading list.

4845383
We gave it our all, honestly the only place I could see us winning in was RD. And there was stiff competition there.

BTW sry Im not on much. I'm pulling doubles all this week at work.

4845551
So true. But I at least hope it will get noticed at Everfree Northwest Brony Con in Seattle.

Also, it's okay. I had a feeling you were having issues with work in real life. Though I should tell you that a follower has been harping about the next story, and this follower is using 2 accounts. He's like "Are you going to make the next story?", "When's the next story?". And I keep saying over and over again that they are made and can't publish them until they're each proofread and edited. In fact, I think you would kind of know about this, because he would've no doubt PMed you about this, due to me mentioning about you.

Congratulations to all of the winners!! :pinkiehappy:

4845594
if you need a proofreader, I have some time, I can help you with this, your call.

Hrmm... I'm curious who the other finalists for the Twilight Award were....

A little late to the party here, but just wanna say thanks EFNW and also to all the other winners and participants as well. Really glad and honored I was able to share the stage with you guys!

Can't make it to Everfree though, mostly because I live halfway across the world (greetings from Kuala Lumpur!) and have a musical to set up. Hope everyone will have a good time at EFNW!

4845755
So am I . . . I wouldn't mind seeing a list, maybe not with the votes (for those that didn't win) but at least mark the awards they were considered for.

Wishing a great big cowpony congratulations to this year's winners!

Aw, maybe next year :twilightblush:. Congrats to the winners.
