    Everfree NW Scribblefest 2017!

Everfree Northwest, Seattle's premier pony convention is known for having one of—if not the—strongest writing tracks in the MLP fandom. As part of that, we run an online writing contest (now called "Scribblefest") every year. Entry is open to everyone, whether or not you attend the convention.

Like last year, we’re giving out six special awards, each of which comes with a $20 Amazon gift code!

This year’s prompt is: Growing up wild and forever free

    The Jaw-Dropper Award ("The Dash")

We all know the type, the stories that make us go "Holy cow, THAT just happened!" This would go to the story with the best twist, surprise, or simple moment of hoof-pumping awesomeness!

    The D'aww Award ("The Fluttershy")

A staple of ponyfic... the story with the sweetest, most touching moment that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Nasally Ejected Beverage Award ("The Pinkie")

New MLP Convention News Service Launches

New MLP Convention News Service Launches

We're excited to announce that Everfree Northwest has become the official site blogger for MLP convention news here on FIMFiction. We will be providing regular site blogs aggregating convention news not just for our own convention, but for any and all MLP conventions that wish to participate. Our goal is to be a central hub for fanfiction and writing-related convention news for the FIMFiction community. By extension, we want to help bring a strong fanfiction presence to MLP conventions around the world, and encourage inter-convention cooperation and outreach.

What this means for you, the reader and potential con-goer.

    BUCK 2014 Write Up

BUCK is over for another year (and maybe forever? Who knows…) so of course I have to do a little write up on the weekend. It’s not going to be too long because I don’t have a ton to say this time compared to last time really but that’s fine by me!

I quite literally begged Blueshift to go, and it ended up that he was a panel member along with me which was excellent. I’ve been desperately wanting to meet him forever so BUCK was a great excuse to do so. Along with my friend Grandiose, Arcainum, his girlfriend Eevee, Zeeraw and Ruby (horse news person) we spent most of the time together drinking quite a lot on the Friday and just generally hanging out during the course of the convention. It was nice to spend time with them all because they’re all good fellas and ladies.

    BUCK 2014 Fanfiction Panel

Some of you Fimfic fans (or as I call them, FIMfans) may already know this, but Saturday 23rd August is the UK pony convention BUCK, and I will be present to host the fanfiction panel. This is something I have taken very seriously and done lots of preparation for......

I'm not saying this panel will literally be the event of the year, but let's be fair, unless man walks on Mars by December 31st, it probably will be. If you're going to BUCK, make sure you are there at the fanfiction panel. You can meet me and the following amazing writers (and Blueshift):

Weird Al has a message for Fimfiction, Galacon & BUCK

To save spamming more site posts I thought I'd wrap these up together.

Using my amazing last minute planning skills (because I'm an idiot and should have decided on this ages ago) I'll be going to Galacon this year. So, say hi if you see me or something. I'll most likely be wearing my fimfic shirt as usual.

Also I'll be doing BUCK again this year in Manchester, and I'll be hosting a panel with Blueshift so make sure you come along if you can and say hi

    Crystal Fair Post-con-mortem

I've said this on Twitter but, other cons have a lot to live up to for anyone who went to Crystal Fair over the last few days. I really cannot hand out enough glowing praise to the con committee to express how well I think this con went. Sadly I've only been physically to 2 cons, but I've watched enough streams and heard enough stories to be confident in my assessment that this was probably the best run pony convention that's happened anywhere. Lots of subtle things, combined with *really* big things just make it an excellent weekend. Anyway, with that out the way, I'm going to delve into as much of my experience as I can remember as I did with BUCK last year.

Conventions » Announcing EFNW Scribblefest 2017 Winners! · 2:45am Apr 20th, 2017

After much deliberation, reading, rereading, and judging we finally have our winners for the Everfree Northwest Scribblefest 2017!

I want to first congratulate all of you who submitted your hard written stories! We had a field of 36 contestants, and that’s amazing! Thank you so much for all your hard work that you do! Now, without further ado, our finalist and their respective categories!

Twilight Sparkle Award
Ebon Quill with “Slouching Towards Canterlot”

Twilight was a tough fight, and it got down to the wire in the end between the final four stories! Excellent job, Ebon Quill, writing a story that showed you did the research and made sure everything was picture perfect! Just like Twilight herself would love!

Rarity Award
Loganberry with “The Book of Ended Lives”
This story was gorgeous, and it was a clean sweep with all 6 judges voting for it. Both pieces in this category had beautiful, flowing prose, but ultimately the gorgeous flair that Loganberry had for his piece won him the prize! Beautifully written, Loganberry!

Rainbow Dash Award
Novel-Idea with “The Cycle of Flame”

To win in this category, the story had to be 200% cooler than all the rest, and Novel-Idea’s piece swept this category with all 6 finalists voting for it. It was a tough decision, but his ability to write action, turmoil, and involve a side of Philomena that we don’t see in the show made for an amazing piece of fiction. Way to be awesome, Novel-Idea!

Pinkie Pie Award
Posh with “The Next Best Thing”

We wanted to have a funny, snickering, hilarious story to win this category. Posh actually manage to make us smile in this one as well. His piece was equal parts funny, heartwarming, and sarcastic, just like we’d expect if Diamond Tiara were interacting with Spike and Starlight Glimmer. Posh, you were nominated in 4 categories, and we all loved your story by degrees! Excellent work!

Applejack Award
Apple Bottoms with “Nihtmer Niht”

The Applejack Award was one of the most contested categories we had for judging. Ultimately, Nihtmer Niht ended up winning out in the end for being very true to the show. The theme showed strongly throughout the story, and we loved the Aesop at the end, which really made this story win. Hard work paid off in the end, didn’t it, Apple Bottoms?

Fluttershy Award
The Hat Man with “Freedom Flourishes”

The Fluttershy award has to be my personal favourite category, because I love heartwarming stories. This story made all of us tear up at the end. The Hat Man expertly blended past with present through a series of flashbacks in this heartwarming tail, that took all of the judges by surprise. Freedom Flourishes was an extremely touching piece, The Hat Man. Fluttershy would be proud.

I wish I could go to Everfree NW but I live in North Carolina.

Thanks for the nod, guys! It means a lot!

And congratulations to the other winners!

Awesome! Great to be a part of this

Congrats to the winners!

Posh, you were nominated in 4 categories, and we all loved your story by degrees! Excellent work!

You shouldn't have told me this. I am going to be completely insufferable for the rest of the year now. To everyone. Over everything. I'm going to print business cards with "Poshy-Woshy: Professional Horse-Words Smile-Causer" and distribute them at my local grocer. I'm going to make T-shirts with my face depicted in diamonds (or rhinestones, whichever's cheaper) in seven different colors, and wear a different one every day of the week. I'm going to go to a steakhouse, order the most expensive thing on the menu, and when the waiter arrives with the check, I'm just going to chuckle smugly, look him in the eye, and say "son, do you have any idea who you're talking to right now?"

Then I'm going to give him a business card.

I imagine the rest of the week will be spent washing dishes, but hell, it'll be worth it. Probably.

Thank you so much; I'm honored and humbled, and glad that I brought some laughter to you all.

Congratulations to all of the winners! You did an excellent job.

I wish I had been able to participate in such a momentous contest such as this, but alas, the stars did not align up to allow me for the occasion. I will keep my eyes posted for another opportunity in the future.

Again, you all did great, and thanks for sharing such beautiful pieces of work for the public to enjoy. :yay:

So when do we get a folder to view all the contenders?

4502630 Congress actually eliminated the Scribblefest 2017 folder from this year's fiscal budget. :/

But you can find a list of entrants here.

Woo hoo, I'm so proud to be chosen as a winner! :pinkiehappy: Thank you very much to all of the judges for their hard work, those were a LOT of fics to wade through and compare!! :pinkiegasp: I'm so excited to win again, I love this contest! Congratulations to everyone else who won as well, and to everyone who entered!! The only story that truly has failed is the one that you don't write, so keep writing, my friends!

I meant to just have one in the Everfree group

Congratulations to everypony who participated! I just hope all had a wonderful time!

Gosh. Wow. Um. Hmm, I see any gift I may have for flowing prose has deserted me for the moment. :raritydespair: But seriously, thank you so much! Congratulations to all the other winners, and to everyone who was involved in this contest. It's been very good fun.

This was a blast writing for this endeavor and everyone who participated should be glad. But above all the writers up above sure are a great batch.

Congratulations to all the winners! :)

Congrats to the winners! I had a wonderful time participating in this, and I hope to do it again next year!

I'll give the judging panel the benefit of the doubt and assume they were unaware of any overly judicious copying which imo crosses the line to plagiarism, since that would require them to be familiar with the source material, no matter how obscure or well-known.

But now that I've read more of the entries, I'm sorely disappointed to see it turn up, in one of the prize winners, no less.
