    Ciderfest's Scattered Pages Wrap-up!

Aside from contests and invitations to do things, I believe all of us here in Fimfic should get to hear about awesome things created by our community of writers.

It was not so long ago that Vivid Syntax reached out to me about a project he was working on. I admit, he wasn't the first to ask (that dubious honor goes to Nyronus) for me to work with them on it, but this time it was a request to reach out to all of you to see if you wanted to participate in something new and daring.

Ponyville Ciderfest: Last Call for Writers, Editors, and Actors

Ponyville Ciderfest: Last Call for Writers, Editors, and Actors

The words are flowing at Ponyville Ciderfest! This year’s convention theme is all about writing, and we’re celebrating with a ton of amazing events, including an interactive storytelling experience!

We’ve already got over sixty active creators and one-hundred stories as part of this project. We’d love to include everyone, but since we need to start finalizing so we can move onto the next stage:

The last day to sign up is Sunday, July 9th.

How does it work? Our writers are helping in three main ways:

    1. Hidden throughout the convention, we’ll have secret code words that can be entered into the PCVF companion app. When an attendee enters a code word, they’ll be presented with a short story (written by the writing team!) and get to make a choice that impacts the events at the con.

Twilight's Book Nook at Everfree Northwest!

D This Is Not A Contest Blog, What Is Happening!?

In 2019 Aquaman organized a bookstore booth at Bronycon. It was such a huge success and gathered so much attention that several of us, including: Capn_Chryssalid, PaulAsaran, yours truly, Monochromatic, Corejo and many others spent a considerable amount of the convention coordinating with security, selling books, engaging people and generally having a great time.

The best thing? The bookstore was incredibly successful. We had a line of people that we had to split into parts and arrange along the wall because of the interest people had in our stories.

    Everfree NW Scribblefest 2017!

Everfree Northwest, Seattle's premier pony convention is known for having one of—if not the—strongest writing tracks in the MLP fandom. As part of that, we run an online writing contest (now called "Scribblefest") every year. Entry is open to everyone, whether or not you attend the convention.

Like last year, we’re giving out six special awards, each of which comes with a $20 Amazon gift code!

This year’s prompt is: Growing up wild and forever free

    Awards

    The Jaw-Dropper Award ("The Dash")

We all know the type, the stories that make us go "Holy cow, THAT just happened!" This would go to the story with the best twist, surprise, or simple moment of hoof-pumping awesomeness!

    The D'aww Award ("The Fluttershy")

A staple of ponyfic... the story with the sweetest, most touching moment that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The Nasally Ejected Beverage Award ("The Pinkie")

New MLP Convention News Service Launches

We're excited to announce that Everfree Northwest has become the official site blogger for MLP convention news here on FIMFiction. We will be providing regular site blogs aggregating convention news not just for our own convention, but for any and all MLP conventions that wish to participate. Our goal is to be a central hub for fanfiction and writing-related convention news for the FIMFiction community. By extension, we want to help bring a strong fanfiction presence to MLP conventions around the world, and encourage inter-convention cooperation and outreach.

What this means for you, the reader and potential con-goer.

Conventions » Pick the Community Choice Award for the EFNW 2015 Pre-Con Contest · 8:57pm Apr 4th, 2015

EDIT: Contest voting is now closed! Thank you all for participating and, hopefully, having a good time. Remember, if you haven't already, go leave comments and feedback for the stories you read. Authors love that sort of thing! We'll have an announcement of winners later this week.

Good day folks,

As many of you know we here on the Everfree Northwest Writing Track recently held a little writing contest. Well, we’ve completed the first round and vetted all the entries. But now that we know which fics can win, we need the Fan Fiction community to vote on their favorites for the Community Choice Award. Below you will find a semi-randomized list of the 73 accepted entries. If you are so inclined please select some at random to read (Please use random.org to randomly select a fic, just set the range on the right from 1 - 73). If you read something you like, post the number of the entry below. If you find multiple fics that you like, feel free to edit your post with the additional numbers. At the end of April 20th we will tabulate all the results and declare the winner of the Community Choice Award. Unless the judges agree with the community, in which case they will receive one of our 1st-3rd place awards and the runner up for the Community Choice Award will win instead.

All fics are related to the topic of “Making New Friends” in some way (which seems apt considering the Season 5 Premiere). All fics are between 1,000 and 3,000 words according to Google docs so they won’t take up much of your time either. All fics are either on FIMFiction or in Google Docs format.

Lastly please be kind to the entrants. They are all brave for putting themselves forward like this. So if you liked a story, let them know and/or give them a thumbs up and remember to be friendly in the spirit of Season 5.

I loved #61! I read it before i knew it was entered in the contest and it rocked!
P.S. i almost entered the contest but didn't finish my story in time. I will enter next year! :pinkiehappy:

Looking forward to it. We will also have a contest at the convention.

Order 66! I mean entry 66!

Some people just want to watch the Jedi burn.

Are entrants allowed to vote?

51!oh, and 61.

EverfreeNorthwest
Official EFNW

2946008
Yes.

Course, it won't help you to vote for yourself.

2946048 In that case, #38

EDIT: Crap! Almost forgot #70

...At risk for my personal sanity, what was the word limit? ._.

Entries I liked: 21, 64, 26

FFFFFFFFFFFFFF

2946451 Intending to read them all, are we?

Well some were as low as 1k.

38 is brilliant. Well proofed, feels like a great show-style story, and not only fits the show's plausible canon but also my own headcanon.

I vote for #73!

Some people have asked me to.

And I have the time now.

But ehhhhhh.

Is there a list of entries with actual NAMES? Because I may have already read some of these.

2947389
If you pick one at random and you've already read it, that's fine. Post the number here if you liked it the first time, go on to read a different one if you didn't.

We don't want people specifically looking for stories they already read, though, because that would give a huge advantage to stories that already have lots of readers, regardless of actual quality.

EverfreeNorthwest
Official EFNW

2947389

There is but we didn't want people to pick things just based off the name. We will likely do a non-site post with the list with names closer to the end of the contest.

2947186
What you should do is what I should do, namely knock off a bunch of stories by good writers you haven't read yet instead of drinking from the hose :V If there are any good writers with stories you haven't read. Which there probably are. Or good stories you've been putting off reading.

Then again, I'm a hypocrite as I keep randomly reading new stories instead of Off the Edge of the Map.

I like 37.

2947756
Weeeeell...

The total wordcount by my calculation is 185,320. That's under the expected total of 210k, but at the same time...

It's not that far under. And it's mostly Slice of Life. And that's a lot of goddamn stories.

I ain't doin' it. <.< Some of these can languish on my RIL.

EverfreeNorthwest
Official EFNW

2948089

In the future if you want to review all them ahead of time we could just make you a judge and you could do this while helping judge.

I mean, it's not like a site blogger who does dozens of reviews isn't qualified.

2948190
I'm still smarting from MMDGC. It's funner doing event reviews when they're under 50 stories, otherwise it feels like work. :B But at least I'll read some of these someday.

I'm going to go with 71, although 7 and 54 were pretty close competitors there.

EverfreeNorthwest
Official EFNW

2948456

You can list all them if you want.

2948745
Well I'll do that then!

Entry 1!

Go Hazred!

Entry #53 and entry #73 both pleased me greatly!

Entry #67, The Mirror Left Blank.

2947695
2947659
The problem with your approach is that it is likely to just end up with people making blog posts advertising their contest entries and asking folks to vote for them; a list of numbered stories isn't very appealing. :ajsleepy:

I've already seen at least one blog post along those lines, to go vote for their story, which was number whatever.

Entry 64.

2950613
Disqualified!

Not really. I fear we don't have a rule against that yet. At any rate, it's very poor sportsmanship, and I'd hope that anyone reading such a blog post would pointedly not vote for the one being promoted.

EverfreeNorthwest
Official EFNW

2950613
2951408

Actually what we will do is the same as last year and message people letting them know it's okay and which number they are. Give everyone a fair shot at self promotion. I've simply been a bit busy the last couple of days. Also I am always curious to see who will be the first to do it on their own.
