Wind Whistler, Fizzy, Gusty, and Shady find a mysterious distortion hanging in the air, and Gusty decides to step through. The others follow, finding themselves in an unfamiliar town called Ponyville. The portal separated them, so they must find each other and find a way back to Dream Valley. Along the way, they meet six ponies who seem vaguely familiar...
This story takes place after the finale of Friendship is Magic, but before the epilogue episode. For the G1 ponies, it takes place after the series has ended.

I'm interested so far, though I'd suggest removing the line that opens the description:
IMO, painting this story as spite-driven out of the gate can negatively warp readers' initial perception of it, and it feels it'd be better positioned in an Author's Note anyway. You generally don't put that kind of thing in the description, much less its very start.

I like it so far. Since I never watched G1, I have to constantly look up their appearances, even though you keep describing them. But aside from that, it's pretty solid. Rarity calling Pinkie "Miss Pie" was a bit confusing, and I originally thought this was pre-season 1, then they talked about Twilight living in Canterlot and the School of Friendship, and it was clear it wasn't.
In any case, do keep it up!

Well, as a big G1 fan I'm intrigued, and I'd love to see where this goes. You definitely captured the voices of the G1 characters; they all talk like they did in the show.
I haven't read the IDW crossover. I've found the comics that I have read to be very hit-or-miss.

I have all five issues of that crossover, you're not missing anything.
I enjoy all the little nods being thrown in like there being fifteen Twinkle-Eyed ponies and Shady winning the jumping contest in one episode of the old show. I think Shady's cutie mark/flank symbol is supposed to be sunglasses, not masks, but that still works for her being able to keep a low profile.
This story reminds me a little bit of the Mish Mash Melee episode of the G1 series with Gusty and Shady being paired up and Fizzy and Wind Whistler also paired as the four of them encounter a strange new place.
I like how this comtinues to follow up on G1 stories. All those little details make this story feel a lot more fleshed out.

I adore the character interactions here. Pinkie and Fizzy making soda together was delightful. I especially appreciated Rainbow Dash and Gusty. A while back I made a video about G1 characters that I wanted to see rebooted for G4, and Gusty was top of the list because I wanted to speculate about how a unicorn with weather magic would fit in with the G4 universe.
Of course now I would love to see this become a series with them moving through the other generations until they get home.
