This story is a sequel to Fading Moonlight
Thousands of years after Luna's sacrifice to Tirek, Celestia and Twilight are the only two remaining in Equestria. But even they are destined to die, as the end of the world nears. Shortly before the last day of their lives comes to an end, they reminisce about their most memorable experiences in Equestria, and recall the events of the night Luna died. Soon after, an emotional farewell takes place.
Rated Teen for literally the slightest death reference ever (and the fact that it's kind of the point of this story).
Understanding of Fading Moonlight is not necessary unless you want to know how Luna died.
Also, Twilight's 5 friends, Spike, and Luna only appear in the epilogue.

Most of them died of old age, the others died in the many conflicts they faced over the years. This takes place thousands of years after the prequel. Not every death was explainable, so I made it short. But technically speaking, that's how everyone died.

I was thinking about that, but when I wrote it, it felt like I kind of jumped to conclusions too quickly. I wanted to keep that tragic theme present while still including the bittersweet tone. So that's why I didn't include that part.

Beautiful. I love it. Of course in my story I have Twilight give up her immortality to pass with her friends. But this is good. Even if she does outlive them it doesnt have to be forever. If I were to write one where she is immortal and outlives them I'd probably have her turn into a dark alicorn and take revenge on Celestia.
