There are many kinds of shepherd and each serve according to their talents. Some are skilled stewards and others are compassionate counselors. Then there are those of us who believe the lives of our flock are more important than our own.

I am a shepherd. The citizens of Equestria are my flock, and a shepherd must protect their flock.

Very nice! We always should respect those who keep us Safe.

Ooo! This is really good! Excellent work, Kai! This has a beautiful undercurrent of poetry to it that really ties the whole story together. It's really beautiful to read, and it's neat to see the bits of introspection on the part of the nameless MC.

This fanfiction reminded me a part of one video, 5:55. Here.

The guy in the white shirt talks about how the story from the bible told by Jesus, the fish, the wheat, and the sheep, was actually not about evil people being separated by the good or warnings about the devil but that the shepherd and the workers to tend to the wheat or fish are the ones to be fear.

The fish are separated from the bad but the good fish are thrown into a fire to be cooked and eaten. Same goes for the wheat. Bad thing happens to the sheep too. Shepard protects the sheep and the sheep is brought to the farm where they are sheered for there wool and slaughter for there meat. I guess calling the guards shepherds and ponies sheep may not be a good idea.

Still a good story though.

Thank you both. This is the first thing I've written in six years so it's baby steps for me until I figure out my own style.

Glad you liked it and thanks for the added thoughts. Perspective can be a great source of enrichment. I hadn't considered the viewpoint of what happens the fish, wheat, and sheep that are culled from those gathered as "the good ones." I watched a small portion of the video and read through some of the comments. While I prefer a more optimistic and idealistic interpretation of spiritual subjects I can see how a viewpoint that feels, what I would call, more "realistic" could be attractive. It's certainly an interesting approach.

And you did well, keep it up!

Wow, it's been seven years since Raindrops Keep Falling was published?

This was fun. While it's been a long time I've read Raindrops, this definitely invoked some similar feelings even though it also felt a bit rusty. Looking forward to seeing what else you write now that you're back.

A nice short and philosophical read. Thank you for that!
