This story is a sequel to Bitter Memories and Sweet Music
Applejack and Rainbow Dash are both athletic....and very competitive to boot. Deciding to see who the ultimate athlete is in the annual Running of the Leaves, they are unprepared when they realize several other runners have gone missing without a trace.
When one of their own friends is kidnapped, these two will have to put aside their competitive natures and get to the bottom of things before it's too late.

Once again, thanks very much for getting the next story started. The exchanges, characterizations and future chapter set-up in all the right places. I particularly like the more adventure-oriented spin mentioned in the description to keep this from being TOO similar to the actual episode.
Rainbow: But if *I* have to wear speed dampeners, AJ has to wear STRENGTH dampeners too.
Applejack: Really?
Rainbow: Yes, really. I might not be as smart as Twilight, but I'm not stupid either. I'm pretty sure that super-strength extends to your entire body - including your legs. You might not be able to run as fast as ME, but you CAN run at the speed of a fast car.
Applejack: Oh, okay. If you're going to be a big baby about it, I WILL wear strength dampeners too.
Rarity: There you go. Besides, both of you doing this WITHOUT super-powers will be good practice for the Friendship Games, since you would be competing against individuals who don't have super-powers.
Applejack/Rainbow: Point taken.
At any rate, I WILL most assuredly be looking forward to more of this.

All I can say is EXCELLENT job on the latest chapter. The exchanges, characterizations, action and future chapter set-up are all well done in all the right places. And, at least now, Rainbow and Applejack SHOULD be willing to put their differences temporarily aside long enough to save Twilight and the others.
Just one detail, though. I think at one point, you accidentally put in "Don't you ponies ever look where you're going?" when you meant "Don't you PEOPLE ever look where you're going?"
As for the villainess, I'm going to guess it's either Catrina or Hydia, but I WILL admit that I COULD be wrong. (the only other female G1 villain I can think of off-hand [there COULD be others, though] is the G1 Somnambula and SHE would be striking from the targets' DREAMS as opposed to this way).
Anyway, I will VERY certainly be looking forward to more of this.

And, yeah, I DID guess wrong because I thought the G1 Somnambula, simply from the sleep-related name, would be striking through her victims' dreams (you know, like a much less gory female Freddy Krugger). Though I suppose it DOES make the name change make a bit more sense (given G4 has a heroine by that name now and you probably wanted to avoid confusion.
And, yes, I WILL most certainly be looking forward to the climax.
Excellent work on the exchanges, characterizations, action and wrap-up in this final chapter. I absolutely LOVED seeing Rainbow and Applejack's teamwork here, plus I adored seeing Noctambula get her just deserts and the scenes with the families at the end was simply beautiful.
And, hey, it wasn't really any darker than the Disney version of Rapunzel. It even had the villainess die in the same manner as in this story.
I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
