The Adeptus Mechanicus would like to know your location.

That they would.
9776774
So, what the hell is it then?

Archeotech. The archeotech.
Imperial technology is largely bits and scraps of a greater whole, tattered remnants of a thrice-ruined past. First, the Men of Iron, mankind's AI servants, rose in bloody revolt and ruined their technology.
Second, the old civilization fell during the age of strife when the warp tore itself apart and took humanity's worlds with it.
Finally, the Heresy split the Imperium in two and corrupted what was left of their technology with demonic scrap-code.
The tech-cult of Mars concerns itself with scouring the reaches of space for lost ruins of the past, hoping to find even the merest scrap of that lost splendor.
Which brings us to the subject of STCs, or Standard Template Constructs. The ancient Terran colonial organizations understood the problems inherent in trying to develop a new planet up to the standard of an FTL civilization. So, each expedition was supplied with an STC, which contained blueprints for everything they would need to establish themselves.
In the 41st millennium only fragments of these troves remain, and they are precious beyond imagining. Two guardsmen found an STC fragment for a new type of lasgun powerpack, they wound up planetary governers. If the Imperium were ever to recover an STC intact, it would propel their civilization thousands of years forward in the blink of an eye.
That is what lies waiting in that bunker, the lost glory of mankind.

Holy shit, this is huge.
9777006
I love how you put this description and it is every bit true. STCs are the bread and butter of mankind's technology. Heck even the space marines rely on them being found as quite a bit of their technology was lost during the heresy. Which is why we use motorcycles and jetbikes like in 30k games.
Was kinda expecting a research base digging around a certain space robot zombie tomb, the reason why they all disappeared
I'm pretty confident in saying that this story uses the word "opined" more then any other story I have ever read.
9777203
You mean the fucking Necrons? Even those guys can kill a Space Marine without breaking a sweat.
9777283
Yep, or just a tomb of some unique necron, like trazyn
9777122
Assuming it is intact, has a functioning power supply, was not somehow corrupted in 15,000 years, or even worse, developed intelligence. STCs were more than just blueprint vaults, they were low level AIs that were capable of solving problems and creating new blueprints nearly on the fly for Saud problems.
Or worse than that, a Man of Iron lay dormant in the facility with an entire STC at its disposal.
An STC is an incredible boon or a terrible foe, let us just hope that it is not something stupidly bad like a Man of Iron or sapient constructs.
9777283
Well not like they are capable of breaking a sweat in the first place
The A.I. from that era were very loyal to humanity it was chaos' influence that corrupted them. There even was a part form a book that uncorrupted man of iron defended imperial guardsmen from corrupted ones but I forget which book. But still men of iron wouldn't be good their far to east to corrupt. They have a mind and body but no soul and no protection from chaos like a blank has.
Still if it even has a fraction of the data and can be used well those word bears are Boomed
Cute. The princess are thousands of years old. But they haven't lost their feminine adorableness.
9778145
There is a theory that corruption was not involved but they did gain sentience, in the book "Man of iron" there was interesting information about them.
9783302
I've read that short story but no were in it is either implied. All chaos would need to do is make a small unnoticeable change to the programming and go from there.
I'm basing it on the chain of events the happened.
Dark age of technology humanity was at it's scientific and technological hight. Science had become like a god. Chaos's power would have be weak at this time.
The cybernetic revolt happens and psykers are one of the most viable weapons to combat the machines.
The age of strife starts right after that can't be a coincidence.
Also running DAoT bases have been found on imperial worlds far after they've been colonized. It not hard to hide a base from orbital scans that one could have been easily missed
9784380
That would be true but at the same time it is not, in a book "skitarius". A magos found a dark age of technology ship under several layers of ice and sended a skiitaari alpha primus to take a look with a squad of infiltrators, and once they verified that there was a 96% change that it is a ship that they are looking for. And in the end there was a STC with loads of blueprint holograms. Magos sended everything he had at his disposal to secure it from savage orks. And there was kinda same thing at Magnus primarch book thou it is a long time that i listened to its audiobook. It is just questionable that how can handheld device detect something that a massive powerful to this purpose made auspexes cant.
9784633
It was about 5,000 years old at the time of the great crusade so it would have been in fairly good condition. My guess given how well hidden it was and if it was operating in powered down state and it had more then just the mountain to hide it like some type of cloak, and DToA humans did have them, they probably just didn't notice it. Mainly from lack of any noticeable trace of humans minus the stories and just didn't bother looking for it. And well after 15,000 years something must have finally failed.
Or even simpler they left it alone for one reason or another. There are a number of reasons they might have left it.
And orbital scans can be fooled easily if you know how or have the means.
9784887
i would refuse to believe that mechanicum whoam had must have designed and build that imperial base, would not ask local humans how did their ancestors came to a planet and not try to find their ship. Switch apparently has bio engineering tech that would even make Fabius Bile jealous. They would put two and two together.
9785880
There weren't any humans on that world at the time of the great crusade. I know how they operate but they have been know to miss things.
You are talking about the world in the story right cause it's the one I'm talking about.
Just sit back and enjoy it. Sure there may be flaws in logic and other such things but it's not non-fiction it will never bend to the true rules of reality. I find the story to be fun and interesting to read so far. It has a nice pace and the way the tone shifts from seriousness all the way to playfulness is spot on. Keep it up MrTea I await your next chapter with growing interest and excitement.
This story has been a great read so far, I like how the characters are handled and love the banter between the two sisters. I am very much looking forward to the next chapter.
Ok so this planet is now one of the most valuable ones ever. A race resistance to chaos, the elements of harmony and now with what they have just found...

What exactly is exciting about this, my knowledge on W40k is limited to the games
9968941
Very old powerful tech
i like the fact that in the Chapter itself the Y’s after “Funny” “”They” and “Nearby” is almost perfectly diagonal to eachother, XD and here they’re almost on top of eachother, :O at least on Ipad.
Holy shit! An STC!!!
Uhm yeah...
Pfff hehehe
THEY HAVE AN STCS?!?

I advise you use 00100000, it makes it more readable.
Finds a possible intact STC
A haunting song is heard on the wind, steadily growing in volume by the second.
My mechadendrites quiver in anticipation.
