The path to evil is often laid with good intentions.
When one has the power to change a person's past in a way that helps them out and make you the user happier at the same time, why should you not do it.
But if each time someone uses it, they get just a bit more lax with it....how long until there is more arguments internally about when to use it than when not to use it?
When an immortal Alicorn, alone for thousands of years, can obtain a family by taking from anothers....it can't end well for anyone now can it?

I see this actually working with the cannon if the situation just devolved until Celestia had like 100 kids and had to get Twilight to reverse engineer the spell to undo it all. Then when she cast the new spell the sudden deficit of alicorns in the time line gave Cadance a magical boost that let her beat Prisma and ascend creating the cannon time line

Well I would expect madness at about Princess Number 54.. and Sanity right after 100 with the "What have I DONE!?" moment when the world is basically trashed because of too many alicorns. The reverse spell have to undo ALL the retcons to be able to undo ANY of them. Or perhaps a few of new Princesses realizing they have way too many siblings for Celestia to have been able to even physically give birth too figuring out she's gone retcon happy and having to fix it themselves before every pony in the entire country is Celestia's child
