The historical interpretations provided by this story really poke my interests. :3
5773917 Been toying with the idea of Barrier complaining to the crown or even writing a book or something {the truth about the war ofc} of the sort to present to say...the historical society or some such, probably behind Celestia's back but with Luna's blessing. I'd imagine that'd throw the crown into a mess, falsifying history and what not. Or not. Hell if I know.
5773957 Hmm, not sure if it was much a falsification or just... negligence. I think you've set it up though for perhaps Soarin to suggest that they petition for a memorial. It would be a nice, long-overdue gesture. I also really like the take of Soarin getting into history. It adds a dimension to his character.
5773969 I actually like that idea - think I'll run with that, if you've no objections to me stealing this idea. ;)
5774021 It's not really stealing. :P It was a thought generated by the conglomeration of your thoughts. lol You using it just makes me say, "Great!" lol
A good explanation is Celestia not wanting the Thestral to be seen as a treat.
Great chapter. I loved the Museum nostalgic. I can't wait to read what happens next.
Hummm.. so Will Barrier find the need to "correct" history as an eye witness? With Luna returned I think Celestia's reason for "white washing" History are well and truly over. While it's said "History is Written by the Winners eventually the real story usually comes out, but long long after the people who fought in the war are dead and buried. The Nigthtmare Wars have at least 3 living Witnesses, Celestia, Luna and Barrier (there might be dragons still alive from that time)
5775452 Only time will tell.
5775452 i doubt it. sunbutt probably modded the facts so the ponies wont be afraid of moonbutt when she comes back and like our Halloween nightmare night probably had a different meaning then costumes and candy.

That's what I meant by "White washing", she suppressed certain facts so Luna was still remembered but the sense of dread wasn't there. Making it easier for ponies to sympathize with Luna by accenting the tragic nature of her transformation into Nightmare rather than the consequences of the war, reducing the panic her return would cause (not preventing it, just reducing it)
That should be "against".
5777596 Fixed, thank you. :3 Will have to beat my editors.
this reminds me heavily of the scene in futurama when Fry visits the 20th Century museum.
I'm sorry, I usually keep my thoughts to myself on older stories but unless something is vastly different, swords are supposed to flex and return to true without deforming. Now, iron weapons might be different - if that's the case, please call me out on it. But I've got plenty of cheap stainless steel for you if you want a stiff (read: brittle) blade. High carbon steel flexes up to 30 degrees and returns to true and that's what you want in a sword. To take the shock of a parry and not break your arm or shatter like glass.
Again, maybe iron swords are supposed to be stiffer to accommodate the ... weaknesses of iron or maybe the ponies have a completely different way of using a blade than I can even comprehend but that just is screaming at me that this guy knows less than me and that's strange for a guard. It's also strange they don't have a steel industry despite the railroads and high rises and such but I suppose you can do that with iron instead of steel.
Sorry, I'll be quiet now.
7051374 It's possible that ponies use a thrusting based style. I know that modern sparring rapiers are far more flexible than actual ones, to make them less likely to harm people. So maybe they're just TOO flexible? They'd still need some flex though, so yeah, the fact he doesn't want the sword to bend is just odd.
I've seen one that's slightly better: Fifty Bales of Hay.
I don't know, if you change it, you change it.

The difference is between bending and flexing.
A blade that bends, remains bent after the bending force is removed.
A blade that flexes, returns to it's original form when the bending force is removed.
Good quality high-carbon steel will hold a sharp edge well, it might flex a little like a spring, but if you try to bend it too far, it'll break. Low quality mild steel will bend without breaking, but it won't hold a sharp edge. You might as well be swinging a crowbar. I can't say much about iron weapons, as they're a thing of antiquity, abandoned as soon as steel was invented.
So this Equestria imports their iron and steel. Fair enough, though in that case I am more curious if they have tin. Historically, humans switched to steel as a side-grade from bronze because tin is fairly uncommon on Earth, much like gold.
If tin is more common in Equestria, along with the copper we already know they have (due to asking for brass, among other things), it'd make more sense for weapons and armor to be bronze rather than gold. Even basic copper gear would be superior to gold.
