Twilight and her friends are having an end of the year party, thrown by Pinkie Pie. Their day of fun is changed when one present arrives from Celestia. The only thing is, the present is for Rainbow Dash. As each pony deals with the present in different ways, will the party still go off as planned? Or will somepony do something they'll regret?

To unravel what exactly happened, enter The Great and Powerful Trixie!

The idea of Trixie solving a mystery is pretty interesting (and it's nice that they're actually willing to trust her impartiality). However, I think this chapter should clarify a little better exactly what the mystery is. All we (and Trixie) knows at this moment is that something has been taken and that there's an odd note.

If anything, she'd probably want to get the gist of the situation from the whole group before she starts questioning anypony specifically.

That's how I feel, at any rate. I look forward to seeing more of this.

Very interesting! It's fun to see the same events from different viewpoints, as well as everypony's habit of focusing on what they think is important, like Fluttershy digressing about her animals.

Plenty of holes in their testimonies. AJ is particularly suspicious; it'll be fun to see her explain herself. I like that Trixie is taking the case seriously enough that she wants to dig deeper, even though Fluttershy practically gave her a confession. Maybe she suspects that Flutters is trying to take the fall to save her friends. Or maybe she just wants a chance to grill all the ponies.

Hmm, I found her a bit standoffish towards Twilight, which was curious since the first chapter suggested they were on friendly terms. Or is she just trying to be impartial?

I'm glad you're enjoying it, so far. And you bring up some really interesting points. I hadn't considered some of them, but I do think the ending makes it a bit clearer, anyway. Just the way it happened to work out.

Heh heh heh. Applejack is being very flowery in her storytelling. Surprised Trixie didn't criticize her for meandering about farming, but maybe she's just given up on getting these ponies to stop acting silly.

I think you nailed AJ's character really well here. As the show has established, AJ is honest and dependable, but she's also deathly afraid of being seen as not dependable (as shown in Applebuck Season, The Last Roundup, and Pinkie Apple Pie) and is willing to go to great lengths of circumspect activity to save her face even though she knows her friends will back her up anyway. Very well done.

Oh, and the very first sentence is missing a period.

Aww, sweet ending. Very well done. And nicely played on the part of Trixie. Very clever.

There's a lot of missing words all over the last two chapters, though. Did you write it in a rush, maybe? My recommendation is that you read it over slowly and you should be able to correct it.

Hey, thanks for reading it all the way through! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll check over the last two chapters as well.

This was really nice.
It also needs more views.

All's well that ends well.

Good stuff.

This mystery is getting curiouser and curiouser...:trixieshiftleft:
I wonder what the final verdict will be.
I shall read on to find out!:yay:

Trixie scoffed and said, "Did you really think that account back in Chapter One of my coming here wasn't my own version of things?"

Looks like Trixie learned to break the fourth wall from Ponk.:trixieshiftleft:

Well that was quite the revelation...

Every action Trixie makes isn't without a reason, no matter how simple.

Was a nice and cute story.

Was a good reread.

I actually believe that Applejack hasn't done anything to the gift but instead knows something about Rainbow's father, Celestia, and the gift.

My guess is that Fluttershy didn't take the real present to begin with. It was already replaced by that point.

Something I've noticed is that Spike always seems to dissapear from the narrative near the countdown and window smashing parts. Twilight is not doing a remotely good job of hiding that she is somehow involved with what happens at the end. I think she may have caused the distraction and spent a few seconds hiding the gift before turning on her horn.

So, here is my best guess as to the real events:

-Pinkie splashed the mail pony, causing him to drop the presents and mail.
-Applejack mixed up the address cards, and put the address card to Rainbow from her father on what was probably supposed to be Twilight's present from Celestia.
-Rainbow brought the present to the Library.
-(this part I'm not sure about at all) Rarity went back to sneak a look at the present, and either hid or took it.
-Fluttershy noticed the missing present and made a replacement.
-AJ suggested they go outside so that she could get a chance to switch the presents around.
-At the end of the countdown, Twilight opened the window and caused a ruckus to give her time to hide the present.
-Both Twilight and Rarity didn't relight the lanterns to avoid having others find the hiding places?
There are a few details I don't get: What was the purpose of the rocking chair scene? What was the banner Pinkie tripped over? Rarity's scarf? Who interrupted Twilight while she was studying? How does Spike play into any of this?
