My name is Lyra Heartstrings and I was accepted, with a full paid musical scholarship, into one of the most prestigious colleges in Equestria: Manehattan University. I am studying to major in classical music alongside my foalhood crush. Sounds great, right? Not really. The mare (yes, mare. I'm a fillyfooler.) is cold towards me, treating me as little more than a nuisance. Has since we were young. And she's straight. But I would do anything to be with her or just to have her like me. Not likely. Why must the universe torment me so?

When Octavia is dragged to one of Canterlot's more respectable nightclubs by some work friends, she finds a whole new world of music that threatens to shatter her pre-existing theories about musical quality. All it takes is one pony, a DJ whose music transcends the barriers of conventional genre classification. Will Octavia take the leap of faith into the unknown world of modern music? And will the mysterious DJ be there to catch her if she falls?

After missing an opportunity to perform in Manehatten, Octavia rides her usual train back to Ponyville in a dark mood. She tries to relax and simply nap or otherwise occupy herself until the train arrives at its destination, but some shady train operators claim that her ticket is invalid, and that Ponyville isn't one of the stops.
Octavia suspects a shakedown, and after being ejected from the train, she waits to defend herself from a possible mugging, but nothing comes. Instead, Octavia finds herself alone on the train platform, struggling to keep herself sane as she waits for the next train.

How does Vinyl cope with the loss of the most important mare in the world to her?

Octavia has been going out with Vinyl for a while, but now she doesn't feel like she can continue, so she writes Vinyl a letter to express the full extent of her feelings for Vinyl.

Vinyl Scratch and Octavia are going on a camping holiday together! But when everything goes wrong due to Vinyl's terrible judgment and foresight, Octavia must learn how to have a good time anyway.
