After a tragic accident claims the lives of Fluttershy and Big Macintosh, Twilight Sparkle begins to grow distant from her remaining friends. She locks herself in her castle and spends her life working on a cure for aging in the hopes her remaining friends can be saved.

Meanwhile, Pinkie Pie comes up with an idea for the best surprise ever. For three years she works in secret on a surprise for Twilight Sparkle. But Twilight's gift won't be revealed until the last of her friends has passed away.

What kind of surprise could possibly make up for the loss of your best friends?

Pinkie falls prey to a terrible, ancient illness. While Twilight wishes to believe her new cure will work, her family and friends try to cope with the inevitable.

Twilight Sparkle hasn't been seen around town lately. She's sent Spike to stay with Rarity for a while, and shut herself up in her castle. Nopony knows when she'll be back.

She's been looking at some old books. Very old. Very dangerous. She might be in over her head.

Pinkie Pie goes to visit her.

It'll all turn out alright.

It had been a long day of saving the world, and the usually perky pony wanted nothing more than to collapse into bed.

Unfortunately, somepony's waiting at Sugarcube Corner.

Pinkie was fine. She just needed to sleep.

After falling asleep in the bath, Twilight's schedule is ruined and she becomes incredibly stressed--until some of Pinkie's hot chocolate gets to her.

Twilight asks Pinkie how she does all the stuff she does and Pinkie tries to explain it by explaining the nature of their world.

Inspired partially by the idea of CHIM from the Elder Scrolls games, one of the more meta things that doesn't crop up much in the games but very interesting.

Pinkie Pie gains the ability to see dreams, and when the Cake twins start having bad dreams at night, waking up crying and sobbing, she takes the matter into her own hooves to keep them safe from the nightmares that plague them.
When she finds out that she can do this because of a dream parasite that's latched onto her, Pinkie needs help, and contacts the Princess of Dreams. Somepony cursed her with this parasite, but she has to stop it before she can get to the culprit, and stopping it reveals Pinkie has in her more than she thought.

The world is ending. Everypony is running around, trying to complete their last wishes and comfort their families. However, Pinkie realizes something. Nopony is happy. Sure, why would they be happy about death, but nopony should spend the last hours of their lives in distress.

Twilight Sparkle has done much for Equestria. If it weren't for her, Equestria would be destroyed three times over by now.

So what happens when she has to leave? What happens when she and Spike are forced to depart from Equestria in order to fulfill their duties? And what happens when there's still important things at home to do?

Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash now have to get along without the one who leads them. All of Equestria is counting on them. Can they do it?
