An innocuous question leads Moondancer to investigating the origins of the yearly celebration of Nightmare Night. As it turns out, it wasn't always about candy and costumes. In fact, her discovery may be a whole lot more than she ever could have expected, and far more than she can handle.

Mount Everhoof. Tallest peak in the world, jutting up to stab the sky like a tall, cruel fang. The mountain’s western slope has held a secret since before the three tribes were founded, but few who seek it ever return. Those that do always speak of a foul magic that attacks the mind—horrors brought to life, paranoia unending, and a blind, murderous rage that sets even family against each other.

In olden times, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna heeded their elders and forbade access to the western slope. That forbiddance continued after the rise of Nightmare Moon, for Celestia realized even alicorns can go mad. The last ones allowed passage were a team of ponies sent by Princess Cadance and Prince Shining Armor two years ago, and of the seven that set out… only one came back.

But the mystery may be on the verge of being solved. The defeat of Tirek has awakened a new power in the Elements of Harmony, one that can resist Mount Everhoof’s empathic magics. With the aid of Maud Pie’s expertise in geomancy, Twilight Sparkle and her friends now venture up Mount Everhoof in search of an artifact belonging to the late King Sombra. They’ve yet to learn what connections the Mad King had with the mountain, but they know they must locate the cursed artifact and destroy it…

...before it can cause any more harm.

Tough Cookie is a plump and sassy artifact appraiser who runs an antique shop in Canterlot. Syntax is a sophisticated bookseller and polyglot who runs a bookstore, also in Canterlot. Though different in disposition, these two friends share a common interest: seeking out rare, historical treasures. This story details one such adventure of theirs.

Cloudy Skies thought that the biggest day of her life would come when she was to receive an operation to correct her vision, but instead it's the day before when a chance encounter with a strange pony sends her veering sharply off-course.

This was my original story idea for the 2nd Monster Mares contest, before I came to the last minute realization that it was supposed to be themed around Nightmare Night and had to come up with something different.

This story is a sequel to Marjoram

It's a bad idea to go into the Everfree Forest Alone.

It's an especially bad idea when you have a chronic illness, but that hasn't stopped Marjoram from trying to map out the ever-changing, twisting paths of the forest.

As much as Ponyville legend relies heavily on the forest, they often forget that at the heart of the woods is the ruins of what was once Equestria's crown jewel. A city forgotten by most, a crumbling ruin.

Marjoram explores, and in his explorations finds reason to bring closure to the princesses.

While this is set as a prequel/sequel to Marjoram, you do not need to read that to understand this story.

This is heavily based off of Cold in Gardez' Lost Cities. This focuses mostly on the 4th chapter.

Shining Armor has always been a hero, especially to his family. He's a strong right arm for his wife-- sometimes literally, when she wants to rest her head on his right bicep. He's been a brother and mentor for his sister, and now is proud to be one of the archmages serving her as the Princess of Magic.

And he is a father. Which means sometimes, he has to field the tough questions.

Doubly so at bedtime.

Little Flurry Heart is a born alicorn. Just today, she saw a brilliant pony make the transition between 'here' and... where? She isn't sure. Her father has been a protector to her, she knows that in a vague, happy sense. A teacher, and a storyteller. A question-answerer.

"I need an explanation, Daddy."

"Okay, Chirpy Bird. I can tell you any story you want."

Twilight takes the Young Six to Griffonstone to learn more about griffon history, and to learn about teamwork. Hoping to rescue the books from the ruined library, it takes them all by surprise when they learn a few things while skimming through the books.

What do you mean dragons lived to the east? The dragons live in the Badlands! Everyone knows that.

Written for the The Discovery contest. Basically my attempt to help explain some of the little details in and around Griffonstone that I've noticed, while also trying to flesh out some history.
