Twilight is very particular about her tea. So particular, in fact, that the only store anywhere near Ponyville to sell her favorite brand is a small tea shop all the way out in Canterlot. This presents a problem, of course, because she's a very busy pony, and she just doesn't have the time to head all the way out there every couple of weeks... but then, that's what #1 assistants are for, isn't it?

Sure, having to leave town so often is pretty inconvenient for Spike, but that's part of the job, and besides, the arrangement works out for both of them; Twilight gets her tea, and Spike gets some time off to visit his old friends in the city. After all, it's not like buying tea is a particularly difficult or time-consuming task. Well, not usually, at least.

(I've tossed in another story, "No One Kicks You Here, Bluenote," as a separate chapter. It's just a nasty, scrappy little thing that I put together as part of an audition and it doesn't really stand on its own, but it's tangentially related to the main story (even though it only really serves to explain a joke that didn't need to be explained) and there are some lines in it that I still kinda like.)

While Twilight Sparkle and her friends go off to fight a dragon, a distressing thought occurs to Spike - as a dragon, he won't always be loved. As the insecurity sets in, he makes a brash decision: running away to pursue a life of crime!

After another failed attempt to ask Rarity out on a date, Spike finds a ruby which, supposedly, gives Dragons great power and courage. Of course, he eats it. But will his newfound courage become a blessing or a curse when things take an unexpected turn and old enemies return with more power?

Spike the dragon always wants to help his friends on their adventures, despite his youth, but after he gets injured on their latest outing, Twilight refuses to let him accompany her on a task from Princess Celestia in an attempt to protect him. Little do they know, a dire threat hangs over Ponyville, and has already made plans to get divert the Mane Six's attention from the real peril at hoof. Can Spike save the residents of Ponyville and deal with his own feelings of inadequacy before his friends fall into a trap?

Twilight discovers more about herself and Spike than she could have imagined, once their relationship is pushed to its boundaries and things change for better and worse.

We should have acted. He’s already here. It was foretold that He would return. His defeat was merely a delay… ‘til the time after Nightmare Moon’s return, after Discord spread chaos across the world. But nopony wanted to believe… believe it could be true. And when the truth finally dawns, it dawns in fire!

When Sir Spike the Fireheart is framed by a fellow knight and branded a traitor to the Kingdom of Equestria for crimes he did not commit, he escapes persecution and makes a new life in the Everfree forest with a thief by the name of Pipsqueak. All the while, the seeds of vengeance slowly begin to bloom, and with the help of a strange cast of allies, he seeks to right the wrongs done unto his name. Cover Art belongs to: John Joseco.
