One can take immortality for granted. One can assume that the moon will always remain in the sky. One could hopefully be forgiven this assumption. There has always been a moon, hasn't there? There has always been a quiet light. One could be further forgiven, then, for thinking the mare meant to represent the moon would be similarly permanent. That she too would never leave ones sight.

One could be forgiven.

Rarity is getting older. She tries not to think about it most days. She usually suceeds! There's just one problem; one nagging thought that won't leave her head no matter how busy she is. She's running out of time. For as much as she's accomplished in the world there's still one thing missing from the perfect life she dreamed of all those years ago: a wife. A ring. A promise, in sickness and in health, to love and be loved in return.

Twilight Sparkle may have hundreds of years but Rarity does not.

Written for a contest ran in a friend's server where it placed second and was read and enjoyed by my friends, whom I love and care for a great deal. If you do not have a group of creative and caring people to share your art with I would recommend beginning that search posthaste; there is no greater joy than sharing your art with people you love and who love you back. I felt your shape. You felt my size. We understood each other perfectly for a moment. Our separation, while necessary, hurt more than any pain that would follow. It is only by being apart that we might create a world to hold our love. It is only by being hurt that we may heal, again and again. I think I would rather be together in the true sense of the word than to love you like this.

You get used to being alone. You get used to knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that the mare you love will never love you back. There's a comfort in that kind of emotional distance. It doesn't matter how empty you may feel at the end of the day. What matters is you don't risk something as important as a friendship for something as stupid as love.

Still, Rainbow Dash was used to taking risks.

There exists, sometimes, a tenuous barrier between love and friendship. It's a line we must all tread at some point in our life. It is with great care and quiet fear that Coco Pommel now sees herself walking this very same tightrope. One on end is love; warm and real and painfully possible. On the other is friendship; comfortable and easily understood, if claustrophobic in the limits of its language.

Today, and every other day, Coco Pommel will walk towards love.
