When I look into the future, I see failure.

Fluttershy is a private mare. She keeps to herself when she can afford to, much preferring the company of animals to ponies. She doesn't like to really say why that is. She doesn't know how to tell anypony what happened. She doesn't know how to explain it or even where to start.

She just wonders if anypony else has heard the singing too.

A fic I wrote in a burst of inspiration while listening to In Birdsong by Everything Everything. Prereading done by the tremendously talented Red Parade. Cover art by SymbianL.

One can take immortality for granted. One can assume that the moon will always remain in the sky. One could hopefully be forgiven this assumption. There has always been a moon, hasn't there? There has always been a quiet light. One could be further forgiven, then, for thinking the mare meant to represent the moon would be similarly permanent. That she too would never leave ones sight.

One could be forgiven.

Rarity is getting older. She tries not to think about it most days. She usually suceeds! There's just one problem; one nagging thought that won't leave her head no matter how busy she is. She's running out of time. For as much as she's accomplished in the world there's still one thing missing from the perfect life she dreamed of all those years ago: a wife. A ring. A promise, in sickness and in health, to love and be loved in return.

Twilight Sparkle may have hundreds of years but Rarity does not.

Written for a contest ran in a friend's server where it placed second and was read and enjoyed by my friends, whom I love and care for a great deal. If you do not have a group of creative and caring people to share your art with I would recommend beginning that search posthaste; there is no greater joy than sharing your art with people you love and who love you back. This story was edited by one such friend, the quick-witted Supreme RariTwi Scholar themselves; Undome Tinwe. Cover art credit to Taikochan.

Octavia Melody is looking for a better life. Octavia Melody is, if she's being honest with herself, looking for any kind of life at all. Any glimmer of hope in a world that is quickly losing such a light. Octavia Melody has recently moved to Ponyville and the fates have gifted her a beacon of sunshine in the form of... Strawberry Sunrise.

Fate is a funny thing.

Written for the Crackshipping Contest where it tied for second place. Edited by endlessly anxious Kim.

Rainbow Dash thought she knew her friend Cloudfront. She thought she understood at least most of what went on in his anxious little head. She thought that being someone's best friend meant you knew everything about them. Turns out there was a lot she didn't know and a lot more there to love.

Change can be scarier but love makes it just a little easier.

Written for the Quills and Sofas Trans Pride contest where it won third place. Based almost entirely on a comic done by the incredible spectralunicorn, from whom I got permission to use the art. Editing done by the stunning and endlessly diligent Kim.

I felt your shape. You felt my size. We understood each other perfectly for a moment. Our separation, while necessary, hurt more than any pain that would follow. It is only by being apart that we might create a world to hold our love. It is only by being hurt that we may heal, again and again. I think I would rather be together in the true sense of the word than to love you like this.

Wrote this for a gift exchange for a server I'm in as a gift for Seer. Edited by the tall, talented, and distinctly Canadian Kim. Cover art is a commissioned piece from Slime. For the full reading experience, please read the formatted version over here before reading the two separate pieces. The story was an experiment in using formatting as a character in and of itself.

You get used to being alone. You get used to knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that the mare you love will never love you back. There's a comfort in that kind of emotional distance. It doesn't matter how empty you may feel at the end of the day. What matters is you don't risk something as important as a friendship for something as stupid as love.

Still, Rainbow Dash was used to taking risks.

Written for my good friend wishcometrue. I hope you have a better birthday next year. Proofing help by the absolutely gorgeous Kim — I blame you for making me as gay as I am. Art by AngryRoru.

There exists, sometimes, a tenuous barrier between love and friendship. It's a line we must all tread at some point in our life. It is with great care and quiet fear that Coco Pommel now sees herself walking this very same tightrope. One on end is love; warm and real and painfully possible. On the other is friendship; comfortable and easily understood, if claustrophobic in the limits of its language.

Today, and every other day, Coco Pommel will walk towards love.

Written as a very late birthday and very early Christmas gift for Kim. Thank you for everything. Editing help provided by the ever-sharp and delightfully gay Undome Tinwe. Cover art by Provolone Pony.

There was always a plan. Twilight knew that. When she was younger, the plan seemed less grandiose. Excel in school, settle down, start a family. Simple things. Simple life. When she was younger, she thought the plan was her plan. Now that she's older she knows better. This was never her plan. She was just part of it.

Written in an hour during a fit of sleeplessness and edited with the help of the endlessly kind and tremendously intelligent Regidar. Cover art taken from here.

The Earth is not a cold dead place. Indeed, it lives. It sings and everything around it raises a voice to join in the choir. The Earth is an unfinished work and will remain as such. It shall never be complete, never final in its design until the design is destroyed. It is in this destruction that the finality comes. Etcetera, etcetera.

Collected here are various short works that don't quite yet have life as fully featured fics. Some of them may never leave this compilation, some may eventually be developed into full pieces. For now their genre tags can be found in the chapter listing and short description within the authors note. Story art credit to redruin01 on Tumblr. Editors are various (and sometimes not present at all) but you can probably blame either Red, Wish, or Seer if something is out of place.
