And we get how far Twilight is now willing to go. And there's no telling how far she will let it go either. The slope has gone steeper, and the enemy of Umbra had failed in preventing this, of which will be lamented by them in the future, I think. But if there's one sure thing, it's that they will keep trying, for their care for Twilight knows no bounds, and the way to stop them is either bringing them into the same slope, or making them cease (die) altogether. Let's wait for what'll happen, shall we?
For things have gone more interesting than before.
And so she dives into the deepest part of the deep end. All i can say is i have read your previous stories and based on that this will lead to a very exciting conclusion. All in all keep up the good work and continue to awe and inspire us
Attack of the vamponies!
NOOOO!!! YOU EVIL FOUL VILE CREATURE! CURSE YOU UMBRA!!!!!!!!
Why did it have to be Silent Moon? Now I see why Moon Dancer was so reluctant to go for and why she was so protective of Silent Moon. I hope there is some way to revive her, or perhaps when Umbra is defeated all of the events that happened will get reversed. I really loved Silent Moon *clearly...*
Now onto the chapter itself. Sick really. But not in a bad "This is horrible and you should feel ashamed" sort of sick. It was unexpected. I had gotten it all right except for who would be killed. I am a little saddened that the Alicorn upgrade was just kind of brushed over and not made a big deal. It could have been something bigger. But since you brushed over it like that, I guess that isn't the real focus. The real focus is what Umbra and Twilight can do together, I'm guessing.
Good chapter. I hope you do make some way to bring Silent Moon back. She did not deserve to die, even if she was willing to die. Winterlight would have been a much better choice if just a plain old sacrifice was needed. But I get this little feeling that Silent Moon was selected all along for this purpose.
... Ima hide now. No one kill me.
Not surprised that Silent Moon was sacrificed for the Alicorn ascension. Tantalus had said that all Twilight needed was pegasus magic to ascend.
I was surprised to see Silent Moon's body used as a base to create a physical form for Umbra, well played on that one.
I especially like how Umbra's true self is still within Twilight, so even if Umbra's physical form is destroyed it doesn't really change anything as Umbra would still be alive within Twilight.
It's funny how Twilight acknowledged the paradox of what she wants, that she is going to plunge the world into war and kill innocent lives so she can "protect" everyone and in the end she goes for it anyway. The whole "ends justify the means" mentality is the most damaging mind state of all, and Twilight has fallen into it rather hard.
Even if there was some magic that could purge the Shadow from her body, Twilight can never go back to the way she was. She has done too much, a lot of it of her own free will, to ever go back to being just Twilight Sparkle.
God-dammit I knew this was coming ever since Silent Moon started polishing that knife but I refused to believe it. In the last chapter though she and Shadow Dancer said they would see each other again, did they just mean in the afterlife or is there someway to bring Moon back or was she just appeasing Dancer so she wouldn't stop her.
Moral Event Horizon time? Moral Event Horizon time.
Actually I think that Twi's going to halt the darker side of the shadow while the shadow will help Twi open up to her more base desires and be less high strung. Twi may have done these dark deeds yet she also knows Celestia's goals and moral values and follows them almost to the T, twi may be dark be she is far from evil, she seeks to protect equestria from it's enemies but she also know's to let them join gradually and plus that little nugget of aj is still there to help kick-start Twi back into gear, now that Twi is powerful enough to actually resist the shadows power effectively. also I really wonder who Celestia's helper is going to be?
2604991 you know the joker would actually laugh in the shadows face and ignore all of her advances in favor of his little pranks. anyway if you actually look at twilight especially when she is outside the shadows influence she is actually quite close to her original self, it was only when the shadow was actively demanding her to act against her morals that she did darker things, and in her logical mind she should realize that now with the shadows influence outside of her body somewhat she can make more logical decisions without all of the extra baggage influencing her decisions.
basically twi will now be a lot more lenient in her methods and allow the pony's to decide their fates for themselves hopefully.
I like where this is going.
Found some mistakes.
2604389 Considering how long I've been sitting on that particular Chekov's Gun, I'm glad you like it! This was one of those scenes that was hard to write properly, simply because getting all the little things about it right for future story was so important.
2604117 Now now...
Who said Twilight was an Alicorn now, hmm? It takes more than wings and a horn to make one, in my opinion. Course, saying anything else would be spoilers.
Including saying anything about Silent Moon.
I would like to draw attention to something though.... She made quite the speech to Twilight. Perhaps people ought to think about what she was trying to say there?

Two more chapters till that. I've got story-climaxes that need to be written first.

I'm going to have to side with the Jokester here. Twilight has been the Shadow's puppet this entire time. All the power Twilight currently has isn't Twilight's power, it's Umbra's.
As for Twilight's logical mind, that got shut off a while back. In this chapter, Twilight realized that her war was going to kill innocent lives, and went ahead with the sacrifice anyway. Logical speaking, murdering the innocent is NOT protection. She's adopted a "For the greater good" mentality that honestly never benefits the common pony. Her war will not "save" Equestria, but it will make the Shadow stronger.

It will be interesting to see if Silent Moon's consciousness is inside that body and if it will have an effect on Umbra down the road. Cadence said that Silent Moon and Shadow Dancer had 'True Love', which I'm thinking is kinda rare amongst the Shadow touched. That may actually come back to bite Umbra.
2605697 meh lets just see what happens and which of our scenarios comes to pass.
2605697
Twilight is very much in what she believes is a "Damned if I do, Damned If I dont" situation. She's been heavily manipulated by at least four different directors so far, and the corruptive effect on her thought processes that Umbra has been inflicting on her has not helped.
To say that she's a puppet is not actually accurate in my opinion.
Rather, she's more of a chess piece that more than one player is trying to maneuver and doesn't realize it. Any stabilizing influences on her have either been removed (Her friends, most namely Dash) or are acting on varying degrees of information (Cadence / Celestia) so she's reacting to things based only on the flawed information she's been fed. Information she doesn't even know is flawed.
I suppose you could call that being a puppet, but she is still acting in a manner which is "Logical" - its just that that "Logic" is not being tempered by emotion or conscience.
2605737
I agree that Twilight's entire thought process has been nuked from orbit by all of these factors. This is why I constantly use the word "puppet". The right emotions are being plucked, the right words are being said, and the correct supportive influences have been removed, I view these as "string pulls".
While her thought process may not be tempered by emotion or conscience, the fact that she has no evidence on hoof that supports the view that her war will make a better Equestria is why I say her logical mind has been turned off. I would say that she is acting on emotion, a brand new set of emotions she has never experienced before, but emotion nonetheless.
And so... The mighty shit storm has begun. Stay away from any and all fans, because this is about to get messy.
IMO, calling Moon "innocent" is abusing the word.
Still, Twilight has crossed a line.
