Celestia stands in the quiet wake of Luna's banishment as she struggles to come to terms with what has occured.

(An odd sort of one shot written in an hour as I try to finally shake off this twist-blasted writer's block and get back to my main stories.)

Your Highness...

No, there's nothing I can say. Nothing that would console you, anyway. This was your only course of action, but that doesn't make it any less painful. I could go on about how the fact that making such painful decisions makes you a great leader, and how making such a heart-wrenching sacrifice speaks to your character. But even then, that won't wash away the guilt.

I know this won't be much consolation, but I still believe in you, Your Highness. You of all ponies know that you can't let tragedy rule your life, and all of Equestria still needs you. I know that you won't let them down.

This was pretty powerful and deep. There are some things that had me kinda scratching my head (the reference to Discord as a colt confused me both in terms of canon and terminology), but the overall mood was successfully conveyed. Simply beautiful.

Thank you so much for the awesome comment, it's so sweet! I love it when readers feel moved to speak directly to the characters themselves, so seeing this made me grin big.
To ease your headscratching a bit, I'll just mention that my head-canon has Discord and Luna friends when they were little, with Discord having a bit of a crush on Celly. When they grew older things fell apart, but to me it's those sort of bitter things that make a story deeper.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my story.
