Sunburst calls his mother to the Crystal Empire with a message saying he needs her help. But the thing he needs help with turns out to be more terrible than Stellar Flare could have possibly imagined.
Created as my Horror entry for the 2023 Thousand Words Contest.
This reminds me of a horror movie I saw once. These two parents were trying to kill their daughter because they said she was possessed, but the cops came in and stopped them, and then the girl is given to a social worker as a foster, but then it's revealed that what the parents said about her being possessed was true and the social worker tries to kill her as well.
I truly felt the terror.
It's like The Omen.
... Yawn. Works as an AU at least. But whatever else Sombra could do, he could never do this. He would have done so otherwise.

Case 39?

Maybe. Not 100%. If it had Nicole Kidman in it then yes.
aww that is the Stellar Flare we know!
love the ponified cosmic horror in-universe works canon
oof, what an ask!
and oof. with how decisive Stellar Flare is here with her actions, is this just her reacting to her son doing something that seems crazy or does she know more than one might expect?
and oof! very understandable for Stellar Flare to not even believe her own son, with the optics of foalnapping Flurry Heart. and what a calculus to make, with the insane-sounding theory being true on one hoof and the horror of what following through with it and it turning out only to be an insane theory could be. being faced with that, from one’s beloved child no less, is truly a horror. thank you for writing!
The King in Palomino is a particularly great ponification.
Alas, poor Sunburst. Should’ve gone with Starlight. She’d have zapped a baby no problem. Probably would’ve torn out both souls like she was opening a stuck pickle jar for him. But no, he went with the mother who never had any faith in what he was capable of without her interference. Ah well, panic makes fools of us all.
Nicely executed little tale of misunderstandings and monstrosities, especially in leaving the consequences to the reader’s imagination. Thank you for it.
