Oh no, you found me

T

Spark Bug, a steampunky earth pony mechanic, attempts to salvage her machines from a house facing imminent flooding, in a world that won't stop raining. During this time, she forms a bond with her creations. Out here, it's just Spark Bug, her machines, and the rain.

My first fanfic, and first creative writing project - be gentle!

This fic is made to accompany an as-of-yet unreleased fic a friend of mine is writing, also featuring my OC. Cover art is my own.

This is meant to be a short one-shot character exploration, to flesh out things to come. Story features no dialog or any other characters. Rated teen for implied death.

I already mentally set this in the Against The Storm universe.

A really good first fic, you should definitely write more! I did have some trouble getting through the descriptions of items and machines, but the vivid way you showed the train of thought from the main character was really fun and drew me in really well. I mean usually "first time fics" are a horrid garble of words vomited onto a screen, with enough typos, spelling mistakes and grammar fails to give three English teachers an ulcer, so this was a treat.

That's so kind, thank you so much!

I did probably go a little overboard with mechanical descriptions - thank you for the feedback!

A nice little story, especially for your first one published. Really nice cover-art, too!

I'd become so accustomed to the ambiance of rain that rainfall became my new silence.

Loved this line.

"I likely won't be adding to this fic"
Darn it! You do such an amazing job of detailing the machines and making it all real! Things have rational explanations, which are sometimes emotions, something I've seen few of that do it so well. I could feel the plan come to life when Spark thought to disconnect the front motor, and the mindless repetition to fix the simpler issues that only comes from doing something many times over. You wrote exactly what it feels like to build and create. If you ever want to write stories of a mechanical inclination such as this again please don't hesitate to do so, you do it so beautifully.

Comments like this are such a fantastic motivator!

Perhaps I will write more. I'm glad the emotions I was aiming to convey came through as clearly as they evidently did. The zen state of a practiced task, carried out with love, is hypnotising to me.

Since you liked this, I made a blog post with some art relevant to this story - check it out!
