Doctor Maud Pie, on the heels of a wildly successful year teaching in Stalliongrad, returns to Ponyville to give a lecture at the School of Friendship, and very nearly bores the children to death. However, Gallus notices something strange; every time Maud Pie speaks, his principal Starlight Glimmer lights up! What's that about? Gallus is determined to solve the mystery of the extremely boring lecture, and perhaps reveal ... a secret relationship between professor and principal?!

Written for the StarTrixMaud shipping contest, this is just a sweet story about an established relationship between Maud Pie and Starlight Glimmer, with some of that sweet, sweet mutual pining after a year spent apart!

Winner of Tenth Place, and Best StarMaud!

A straightforward little slice-of-life that gives you exactly what it says in the longdesc: a snapshot of an established relationship between headmare Starlight Glimmer and Dr. Maud Pie that is very short and sweet. What makes this Guest Lecturer stand out from other works of this light and fluffy genre is the introduction of the characters and the ship through the eyes of the students, for whom school administrators and guest lecturers are categorized somewhat closer to textbooks and lockers than fully-rounded people with lives of their own outside of school, which makes the peek behind the curtain all the more intriguing to them. This really grounds the presence and reality of their relationship and love by contextualizing it as part of the observable world that third parties can deduce; a fact about the universe as mundane and as obvious as the difference between igneous and metamorphic rocks. And that mundanity is just what makes this type of story so pleasant to spend time in.

Hmmm, maybe Pinkie Pie has taught her sister about the magic of hiding things in dimensional pockets? :pinkiehappy: What do you think?

hello! you should have already been PMed about this, but this comment is just to record that this fic has won Best StarMaud in the StarTrixMaud Shipping Contest!

Her eyes were glamorous, like Professor Rarity’s, but Rarity wouldn’t have even used her plain blue frock as a dish rag.

noooooo it's such a nice frock!

“Smart and funny.” Starlight Glimmer whispered to herself.

you're telling me, glim!

pointing out diagrams (all in grayscale)

loved this little touch

“I’m gonna figure this out.”

there is something very nice about this bit.. it really could be part of a canon episode, both exploring how the secondary characters are seen through the Young Six's eyes and being a plot that very much feels like an episode of MLP (with the rating bumped up by a couple of years so that infidelity can be discussed i guess!)

Behind him, he heard Starlight Glimmer gasp, but Maud Pie considered him from under the same, flat gaze, her eyes half-lidded. “Yes. Didn’t I say that at the beginning?”

“No!”

hard to not quote all the Maud moments for being so Maud

“Does principal give wife homework?!” Yona laughed, clapping her hooves together.

perfect Yona line! i loved this! just the concept of "wife homework" is a great one

“Don’t do that. I like it.” Maud protested, and came close to her again, lifting her own hooves to take a hold of Starlight’s face, so she could turn her cheek towards her for a kiss. “You are beautiful in whatever color you wear.”

i of course loved this and every other part of the exchange. really lovely little slice-of-life here. such beautiful StarMaud! the contrast between their affects, their differing reasons for not having mentioned it to the students, Maud's perceptiveness of Starlight's little characteristics and her appreciation of them, the show-not-tell of Starlight's burning-hot attraction to Maud through the eyes of her students, and just the sheer casualness and mundanity of their married life, including the challenge of having to be apart from each other for career reasons. this stuff is my kryptonite and you are spoon-feeding me it, thank you so much!

“Oh, I have LOTS of questions!” Giggled Cozy Glow, who zipped out of the room on tiny wings.

When did she get freed?
