are you in a channel called Syn's Bin by chance?

No, I'm not. What is that server about?
....wow uh, I don't know what to say really but I will try.
So her becoming Nightmare Moon is, at least Partly, Celestia's fault.....I can be-leave that. The fact that Celestia was (for all intents and purpose) a Traditionalist Prick isn't surprising, This seems to be the general Consent by those who look into Canon Lore surrounding the Event's leading up to Luna's Banishment.
I do have to wonder how old Star swirl was at that point as even in Canon he is speculated to have been in his early to late fifty's at best! At the point of Her Banishment, it is speculated that Celestia was the oldest at around 150 to 200 years of age and Luna being the Youngest at around 90 to 130 years of Age. So wouldn't that put Star Swirl at close to his death bed even if these events didn't happen?
I have to wonder at the Intentions of this version of the Nightmare, as it seems like it was trying to show Luna the things that she was overlooking and didn't expect all of this to happen. I think she is misinterpreting the Nightmares intentions when is all reality it was trying to use Luna to bring Celestia out of her near Tyrannical actions.
In the end The whole situation seems to fall onto Celestia's shoulders, she was the root of the problem and the cause of the crack that allowed this Nightmare to slip in by forcing Luna and Star Swirl apart and then Banishing Him when they Ignored her so called Order when in all reality she had no right to do so.
In all reality I wouldn't Blame Ash if he went and slapped Celestia a few times after this, It's what I would do if not more.
any way that's all I got for the moment.
A much more compelling reason than the show.

You bring up some good points, and that's certainly possible....except then why would the Nightmare keep Luna from seeing all the pain she was causing Starswirl? Why would, blacked out by rage, she kill said beloved? Why would it take control to go attack Celestia, since Luna was the one who struck him down?
That said, yes, Celestia does share the blame, even if it is a majority of it....but don't think she hasn't beaten herself up over it. That she is such a good ruler now proves that she learned from this. Hell, if you read it again, she realized her faults once she removed Luna's Illusion....and saw the monster she had become due to her order, and then beaten back, her guard dead, the TOWN dead....I'll wager she's been beating herself up over what she SHOULD have done for the past 1000 years, reminded every time she saw the Mare in the Moon.

That's were it get's Muddy, see I think Luna AND nightmare Moon were clouding each others Views to the point that they were seeing not present but past Highlights! Kind of like Rose Tented Glasses in a sense, They were both living in the past and thus when Celestia did what she did it looked to them both like she was attacking them IN THE PAST rather then in the Present. This in turn sent Both minds into a sort of Berserker like state and lead to a out of control spell storm that attacked EVERYTHING including Star Swirl.
Why did Luna give up total control to Nightmare? well I think it was due to that same RTG effect, both minds think that it WAS Celestia but only Nightmare Moon really had the "State of Mind" to take control while Luna was shutting down from what she thinks was her fault in killing Star Swirl when in all reality it was merely just a accident in her Berserk like state.
Celestia might be regreting what she did back then, but she has also not taken any time to sit down and TALK with Luna about it all and quite frankly I don't think she WILL until some one slaps her a few times and tells her to do so.
Also what happened to Star Swirls Body? Was he ever put to rest? or was he left there to rot!
Is he ever going to tell the the truth? I also hope ponies can't learn magika. Or if they can it's different.
Please! PLEASE!!! Have Celestia or Cadence walk in on them in the morning. It's to good a chance for sisterly teasing to pass up.
Celestia: Did you enjoy your new body pillow last night. I thought it was quite life like.
Luna can't talk she's blushing and sputtering to much.
You did a really stellar job with this. The update to Nightmare Moon's story makes a ton of sense, and you delivered it in a powerful way. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest to hear that there was a time when Celestia was a stickler for tradition and appearances, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that manifested in ways which drove Luna away. Great work on this chapter.

I guess now it's just a matter of making one joke eclipse the others.
I don't know how to determine the Elements of Harmony's actions here. On one hand, it was possible that they thought that they were doing a mercy here. Easy to see how that could be very, very wrong though. On the other hand, without awareness of any kind this was the most unbelievably cruel action to ever exist. It left Luna in a broken state to be reawoken on a time bomb of misery. It made sure that Luna would never truly be a part of society for multiple hundreds of year do to her isolation & missing societal changes. It then punished Celestia by allowing her to heal with time and then rip that wound open with rusty serrated knives by not only having Luna returned in the same state of hurt that she was a 1000 years ago, but she has to see her sister completely be screwed while trying to actually reintegrate into society + deal with the loss of her old world. Now that I think on it, in most cases the Elements have Kindness as one of them but they are anything except that.
I wonder how he'll react when Heat season comes, after all her perception of time was altered but her body went through that long amount of time (even in that magic form) without satisfying its heat.
So he'll have to deal with a alicon that has a dry spell which has spanded a thousand years, and Celestia not so much (in the dry spell area) but he'll probably have to deal with her as well.
After all polygamy is almost a must have and most of the time is a must have, via equestrias total population being 75 to 90% female and 25 to 10% male it's sort expected.
Plus if he learns the right spells and/or gathers the right ingredients he can become immortal, meaning that the mortality problem that he's facing can be overcome.
And after enough time they'll eventually try new things like kinks, fetishes, etc. So it's only a matter of if he finds one of the ways to become immortal, and time. After all things will become boring after a certain amount of time no matter what it is, it's just that the amount of time changes depending on what it is.
