Aaaaaaannd he's off again. I somehow knew they wouldn't get their date. It's almost an unspoken storytelling law that the romantic couple can't have a first date without something happening.
Why do I get the feeling that the Snow Wolfs are like a Summon? It would be interesting if he could use Conjuration to bind one or all of them for the betterment of Equestria!
Also I have the feeling that the Detachment going into the plains is going to meet a horrible fate and only one of them is going to make it back only to die.
THIS! THIS has me worried, I suspect that the Numbers are more then "Over a Hundred" more like HUNDREDS!
This chapter without fluff:
Ash was woken up in the wee hours of the morning due to an emergency. A town was attacked and there are many severe injuries.
After a quick breakfast with black bitter horribly unpleasant coffee, Ash was briefed on snow wolves - giant thick-furred white monstrosities driven back by fire.
Following breakfast Ash and Luna spent some time together cuddling.
Eventually he got a large knife aka pony shortsword,, took off, and began introductions and laying the groundwork for an FAQ pamphlet.
Not very much went on, all in all.

His character has to explain his magic each time the question comes up. But at least he gets more concise with each retelling.
This wouldn’t be Starlight’s Sunburst, would it? I mean, it’d explain how he wound up in the North and eventually the Crystal Empire.
Ash goes out once more.
The things one does to help another in peril, a noble heart does not rest easy.
I look forward to what will occur in the cold city of the north.
Ashephyles, Combat Healer
Frequently Asked Questions,
Basic Information,
and Important Things to Know.
Ashephe... ashephylus....?
Due to the difficulty many individuals have with Ashephyles' full name, it is acceptable and expedient to refer to him as Ash.
Magic?
Magicka.
Magicka?
A force similar to magic with extra-dimensional origins which obeys a different set of rules to traditional Unicorn magic. This is recovered via meditation, or sleep, may be used for offense, defense, or support. Be warned that Ash's form of magic has physical risk attached to heavy undertakings, and should be allowed to rest on request between magical expenditures.
What can he do with this 'magicka'?
Magicka follows a system of spells which fall into 'Destruction' (traditional elemental battle-magic), 'Alteration' (transmutative effects), 'Illusion' (primarily temporary mind-altering rather than visual effects), 'Conjuration' (An alternative to dark magic summoning which does not appear to have corrupting influence), and 'Restoration', Ash's focus as a healer.
How can he use magic when he is not a unicorn?
Magicka does not require a biological focus like unicorn magic, and instead requires a connection to an extra-dimensional plane known as 'Aetherius.' It is currently unknown if ponies possess such a connection.
What is Ash?
Ash belongs to an omnivorous, bipedal species called a 'Human' (HUE-mahn). His diet includes fish, eggs, dairy, fruits, berries, vegetables, grains, and sugars, but he cannot digest most forms of flower or grass. His forelimbs (arms) are used for grasping and manipulation with the flat, flexible appendages (hands) and digits (fingers), and may be compared to those of a minotaur. Due to his species lack of inherent protective covering such as a pelt or scales, he is required to wear clothing for protection against the sun, weather, or aggressors. This has lead to a cultural expectation of being covered by such with few exceptions.
He eats meat?
Or a high-protein diet of nuts and beans if non-sapient meat (fish, for example) is available. Further, said meat must be prepared to sterilize it against certain diseases or parasites and as such must be cooked. It is also important to understand that Ash as an individual and Ash's culture find the idea of consuming meat which can think for itself reprehensible.
Why is he so rude?
Ash's culture is primarily verbal rather than tactile or gesture-based, and it may be that he is unaware of certain cues or nuances that you are attempting to communicate with him. Also be aware that due to the lack of tail or mobile ears, Ash is also unable to return much of this nonverbal communication, and therefor must speak to express certain concepts. Hand contact should, as context denotes, be considered as a combination of muzzle, hoof, or shoulder contact. If in doubt, verbalize, and explain the error - Ash usually will not repeat it.
What are his physical capabilities?
As a biped, Ash should be considered more nimble in enclosed spaces than a pony, but also somewhat slower over straight distances. A sprint can rival an adult pony's gallop for a brief time, and his build lends itself to rapid acceleration and deceleration, but his usual conveyance may be between a trot and a canter, depending on the size of the pony. Ash does not have natural weaponry, as his species are tool users, but unlike Unicorns he has no biological focus to target to inhibit spellcasting.
Is he single?
No.
...etc.
Because repeated infodumps are annoying to read and to write.

I'm afraid that having to constantly explain something to new people is a fact of life. Every time you meet a new person, you have to reiterate what your name is to them. Every time someone asks you where you were born, you have to say your hometown or city again. Every time someone asks you what your hobbies are, you have to explain them again. Ash can't just say, "I can't tell you because I'm repeating what I told someone else two weeks ago." When asked a question, he can ignore them, answer them, or tell them no. The first and the last are rude, so he just answers the question.

Love those books.

Yes, but the issue here is that as a narrative you don't have to spell out every word he's saying when it's something he's already explained several times before. This is why you see books and fan-fiction alike using lines like "After a short explaination" or something like that. It is completely OK to do that if the reader already knows the answer to a question, or has recently been told the answer to that question. If the answers Ash would give are nonstandard or if they became important enough to restate in detail, that's when you would spell it out. Of course things like introductions are written usually, since that's character-establishment, but the interactions necessary that the newly introduced character knows the specifics of capabilities, not so much.
Also, the comment before was more of something that could be printed up and distributed to, say, guards required to work with him. Or at least the COs.

My reasoning behind not doing something like that is that it allows me more freedom to directly lead a conversation, opening up possibilities for character development for both Ash himself, and other characters in the story. There will be time where I'll 'quickly brush over' an explanation rather than detailing it, but they might be rare.
While I'm happy for the date and to see what spells he could learn with the wolves; I really want to see his camping trip with Luna. With all the monsters there, that could be where soul trap and gem charging comes into play.
Thanks for keeping an amazing schedule for your stories!
He should have read up on oakflesh before leaving his guide behind.

Yup. Woulda been handy.
Bit of a mix-up there.
This probably isn't much of a mix-up, but it'd be good to explain a bit further that it snows in the plains more than it does the town so people don't get confused.

Thank you for that! I've gone back and fixed the errors. They may have been small, but an error is an errors!
